What is a CONCEPT PAPER?
It is a persuasive document that offers
solution to an identified problem or need.
Attempt to sell an idea, a product or service,
or a new concept or plan
Examples: event proposal, research proposal,
project proposal (Fusion 2013)
What is a CONCEPT PAPER?
Are summaries of projects or issues that reflect
the interests, experiences and expertise of the
writer
Used as an instructional tool that may have
developed as a result of extensive research or as
a result of a project
Provides guidance for the implementation of a
program

Discuss best practices, philosophies and other
related issues that the writer believes
It serves the purpose of providing in-depth
discussion of a topic that the writer has a strong
position on, usually with the intent of obtaining
funding for that “concept”.
How to Elucidate a Concept Paper

A mode of paragraph development that
answers the questions: What is it? What does
it mean? What are its special features?
The words to be defined may be an object, a
concept, a person, a place or a phenomenon.

2. EXPLICATION
It is the process by which abstract concepts
are systematically linked to observed
variations in those concepts in the “real” world
with appropriate methods

This is accomplished by developing two definitions:
a. Conceptual Definitions – Specify the meaning of
the concepts to be suited; verbal descriptions of the
essential properties the researcher intends to be
included within the concept’s meaning.
b. Operational Definitions- Procedures by which the
concept is to be observed, measured or manipulated.
How to Elucidate a Concept Paper
3. CLARIFICATION
This it is a process that engages critical thinking.
It creates multiple meaning through:
a. Formulating purposes;
b. Choosing, examining, and integrating data sources;
and
c. Representing a final conceptualization that can also
be examined for adequacy.
Application:
Group Collaboration:
At the end of this lesson, your main goal is to produce a
well-balanced concept paper for a PROJECT PROPOSAL
which you will present with accompanying visuals/ graphic
aids.
Brainstorming. Start planning/conceptualizing for a project
that you would like to propose to a target sponsor/funder.
Make sure to explain the concept that you would like to
develop in your concept paper.
