There is no possibility to drastically reduce the number of victims of traffic accidents given the increasing motorization
rate and mobility, while road infrastructure development is not being carried out at the same rate.

Conclusions
Accidents involving HGV, LGV and PT vehicles
The future version of The National Strategy for Road Safety should include a specific objective in
regard to road network improvements - the need for the construction of a reliable road network
of infrastructure dedicated to high-speed and freight vehicles, namely motorways, expressways,
ring roads, bypasses, and collector streets in order to bypass vulnerable localities documented in
this research as accidents hotspots and fatalities hotspots and ease the burden of the black
corridors in the N-W Region.
Furthermore, the document should clearly specify the need for appropriate facilities for the road
freight and passenger transport, which are also important factors for the drivers.
In terms of the integrated planning process, another specific objective should refer to reviewing
planning and urban development norms and including details referring to urbanization along
transit roads - European, national, county – to limit the linear development of existing localities
along these.
The accident data collection should include vehicle category, according to the Romanian traffic
norms, along with the vehicle characteristics.
A future analysis will focus on the municipalities in order to establish relationships between
variables such as: road network density, number of accidents and number of fatalities, etc.
