The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss

One Saturday in July, Daniel planted a carrot seed in one

farm of Bulacan. His mother said, “I’m afraid it won’t come
up.” His father said, “I’m afraid it won’t come up.” His sister
Ella said, “It won’t come up.” Every day, while with his pet
dog named Scoovy Doo, the little boy still watered the
ground and pulled out the weeds. But nothing came up. And
nothing came up. Everyone said it wouldn’t come up. But
every day, the little boy still watered the ground and pulled
out the weeds. And then, one Sunday in August... A carrot
plant came up. Just as the little boy had known it would.
