ECE305 Control Systems: DR - Anuj Jain

This document provides details about the ECE305 Control Systems course taught by Dr. Anuj Jain. It lists recommended textbooks and references. The course will cover fundamental control system concepts, modeling different systems, time and frequency response analysis, stability analysis, design of compensators using Bode plots, and state space analysis. The goal is for students to understand control systems and be able to analyze, design, and develop solutions for applications like temperature control, motion control, robotics, pressure control, and more.

Why we study Control Systems?
• What good is an airplane if you are a pilot and
you can't make it go where you want it to go?

• What good is a chemical products production

line if you can't control temperature, pressure
and pH in the process and you end up making
tons of garbage?
Why we study Control Systems?
• What good is a pump if you can't control the
flow rate it produces? (And, there are many
times when the flow rate must be controlled.)

• What good is an oven if you can't control the

temperature? (And, does it matter if it's an
oven in a kitchen or an oven in a heat-treating
department that is used to harden metal
parts?)
Applications
• Temperature control system
• Motion control system
• Robotics
• Pressure control
• Precise control of chemical reactions
• Automobiles (like engine control, fuel control, brakes and
suspension control)
• Household appliances (temperature management in
refrigerator, rotational motion in washing machines)
• Defence Industry (Missile control, satellite tracking)
