INTRODUCTION

 Internet of Things (IOT) is a novel paradigm that is rapidly gaining

ground in the modern wireless telecommunications. Home appliances
are controlled using FPGA which receives commands in serial
communication port.

 The term “Smart Home”, “Intelligent Home” is associated with this

type of system and has been used to introduce the concept of
networking appliances and devices in the house.

 Verilog code is used to design home automation system efficiently.

Xilinx ISE Design Suite is a synthesized tool that analysis the
parameters such as current, voltage, temperature, light intensity and
water level.

OBJECTIVE

 To design a home automation system that is capable of

providing high security and comfort to home users.

 To avoid bandwidth problems caused by UART.

 Less energy usage.

 To implement a low cost, reliable and scalable home

automation that can be used to remotely switch on or off
any household appliances.

EXISTING SYSTEM

 No real time monitoring system

 GSM based automation systems
 Sending image through MMS

DRAWBACKS

 Image not receiving accurately

 No immediate alert
 Due to signal problem sometimes we can’t get message

DESCRIPTION
 The proposed system is composed of a monitoring and controlling
unit.
 The system consists of temperature sensor, PIR sensor and Gas
Sensor. FPGA based multi parameter monitoring using RS232 and
microcontroller that measures and controls various global
parameters. The system comprises of a single master and multiple
slaves with wireless mode of communication with FPGA. The
parameters that can be tracked are current, voltage, temperature,
light intensity and water level. Here FPGA act as a master node and
slave node is controller.
 System on a Chip is a method of placing all necessary electronics
for running a computer on a single chip. FPGA needs an Operating
system to start up. FPGA omits any on-board non-volatile memory
used to store the boot loaders. After boot load, as per the
application program FPGA will get execute.

INTERFACING FPGA WITH IOT
 The ESP wifi module connected with FPGA and analog
interface along with Temperature and light detect
sensors connected to ADC chip.

 Spartan6 FPGA kit features 8 channel ADC which can

be used to interface upto 8 analog sensors.

 FPGA kit features 4 channel analog input available at

the external connector which can process 1MSPS.
1
 Reading the temperature and light intensity level. That can
be easily visualised through graphs.

 Conversion of analog sensor data to digital output.

 Displaying the sensor data in 2*16 LCD Display.

 Finally sensor data is transmitted to the cloud network

through Wi-Fi-module.

 Cloud data can be easily accessed through mobile app

through cloud network channel ID.

FUNCTIONING OF SENSORS
When an intruder enters the Safe house without entering
password, the motion sensor detects it and raises the Theft
Alarm with Red Light.

When (at any instance of time or executed program) a gas is

present (specifically LPG, butane, propane, methane, alcohol,
hydrogen and smoke), the Gas Sensor detects it and raises the
Gas Alarm.

Alarm Stop button is present on keypad to shutdown all

alarms after successfully alerting user(s).
1
 Pin code interface (keypad) is present and 5 LEDs
including one power LED. The user have to enter 4 digit
pin, 1 LED lights up after each key press. The 4 LEDs will
blink in case of wrong pin code but glow continuously in
case of correct pin code.

 When correct pin code is entered, the doors will be

unlocked by servo motor and Light Bulb will be switched
ON. The user can now access the Safe house. There is a
Button to lock (Relock) the Safe house Again.
