Smart Home-English Power Point

A smart home refers to a home that uses internet-connected devices and appliances that can be remotely monitored and controlled via smartphones and apps. Most smart devices connect to the home Wi-Fi network and then to servers accessed through apps. While individual devices use little data, a full smart home hub can use 300 MB per month. Benefits include remote control and management of devices from anywhere for convenience, security, and energy efficiency. However, smart homes have high upfront costs and security/privacy risks if not properly configured. Overall, the convenience and potential cost savings can outweigh disadvantages for many homeowners.

Smart Home

What is smart home concept?

• Smart home is a term that refers to modern homes that
have appliances, lighting and/or electronic devices that
can be controlled remotely by the owner, often via a
mobile app. Smart home-enabled devices can also
operate in conjunction with other devices in
the home and communicate information to
other smart devices.
How does smart technology work?
• Most app based smart devices work by connecting your
Home-Automation devices to your home network via Wi-Fi.
Those devices connect to a server somewhere, which you
then access through apps on your smart device. ... Some
app-based home automation technology connects to
your smart device directly through Bluetooth.
How much data does a smart home use?
• In general, most of your smart home devices use very little
of your internet or WiFi bandwidth. Things like
your smart plugs and smart lights might use 50 MB per
month, while your smart hub, might use around 300 MB per
month, even if you stream music or a favorite radio station.
What are the benefits of a smart home?
• Managing all of your home devices from one place. The
convenience factor here is enormous.
• Flexibility for new devices and appliances.
• Maximizing home security.
• Remote control of home functions.
• Increased energy efficiency.
• Improved appliance functionality.
• Home management insights.
What are the disadvantages of a smart home?
• The main smart home disadvantage is
the high cost of setting up a fully
functional smart home.
• Technology Learning .
• Security and Privacy.
Why is smart home important?
• Smart home ensures you save electricity and reduce your
power and water bills. Often it is observed that lights remain
on due to the laziness of standing up and turning them off.
A smart home will allow you to turn off lights and other
electronic items even when you are in bed and going to sleep.
How safe are smart homes?
• As with any internet-connected device, smart homes are at
risk of getting hacked. Each connected device notifies its
corresponding app when it's being used, sending a digital
fingerprint to the router. Hackers monitoring your router can
learn about your daily schedule and view videos/images of you
or maps of your home.
Are smart homes worth the investment?

• In conclusion, despite all the downsides, smart homes can

provide convenience, solve problems you regularly encounter,
and even save you money. If that sounds good to you,
it's worth the investment.
