EEN-324 Power Electronics

The document discusses different types of single-phase uncontrolled rectifiers, including: 1) A single-pulse rectifier with a resistive or inductive (RL) load, with or without a freewheeling diode. 2) A two-pulse full-wave center-tapped transformer rectifier with resistive or inductive load. 3) A full-wave bridge rectifier with resistive or inductive load. Circuit diagrams, voltage and current waveforms are provided for each rectifier configuration.

INTRODUCTION
 Rectification is a process that converts AC into DC.

 In diode based rectifiers, output voltage cannot be

controlled. So they are termed as uncontrolled
rectifiers.

 Rectifier may be n-pulse type.

Number of pulses in any rectifier configuration is given
by:

Pulse number=number of load current (or

voltage) pulses during one cycle of ac source voltage.

 Diodes are assumed to be ideal. 2
