Modelling-Particles Objects Prepared By: Rosiadi Bin Tajudin

This document discusses modeling particles objects in 3ds Max. It begins by listing the learning objectives, which include understanding particles systems, the different types of particles and particle systems, and how to apply tools to alter the direction of particle objects. It then defines the common features of emitters and particles. It describes the three types of particles and six types of particle systems. Finally, it discusses two tools - space warps and deflectors - that can be used to alter the direction of particle objects and provides examples of tutorials applying these concepts.

Learning objectives
At the end of this topic, you will be able to:

d) States the concept of particles systems and its 2 common features.

e) States 3 types of particles.
f) States 6 types of particles systems.
g) Apply particles systems to create particle objects.
h) Render particle objects creted into .avi file format.
i) States 2 types of tools and its function that cause direction alteration to
particles objects.
j) Apply tools that cause direction alteration to particles objects.
Particles Systems
 Particles systems are used to create multiple objects that move
over time.

 Used to stimulate rain, snow, blowing sand and smoke, or anything

that involves numerous small objects.
Common Features of Particles
Systems
 Two common features of particles systems is:

 Emitter
 Non-rendering object use as the location where the particles begin their
lives.
 Variety of shapes, including planes, boxes, cylinder, and emitter-specific
icons.

 Particles
 The real meat of a particle system.
 How the particles looks known as the type of particles emitted.
 2D particle shape, called “facing” particle (square shape)
 3D particle shape.

Particles
Types of Particles
Three types of 3D particles :

 Standard shapes (Triangles, stars, tetrahedrons, cubes, and

spheres)

 Metaparticles (based on metaball technology)

 Instance geometry (Substituted particles with any 3D object

in a scene) at rendering time.

Types of Particles Systems
Six types of particles systems is:

3. Spray
 Basic particle system.
 Particles are emitted from a plane-shaped emitter (tetrahedron
or facing particles).

4. Snow
 Similar to spray particle system.
 Has a tumble factor to each 2D particle emitted.
 Enable star, triangle, or facing particles to rotate randomly in
falling snow or billowing leaves.
Types of Particles Systems
1. Super Spray
 Has large amount of control over emission, motion, and type of
particles.

2. Blizzard
 Updated version of snow particle system with much of the
control found in the Super Spray.

3. PAarray
 Use existing geometry object in the scene as the emitter.
 Particles can be emitted from the object’s edges, vertices, or
faces.
Types of Particles Systems

2. PCloud
 Restricts the loction of the particles to the volume of Pcloud
icon or a selected geometry object.
Tutorial 1
 Creating particles object by using several types of particles
systems (Using spray, snow and super spray)

 Render the result into .avi file format.

Particles Direction Alteration
Two tools that can be used to alter the particles direction is
space warps and deflector.

4. Space warps

 Non-rendering object that can influence the appearance of

geometry or the motion of the particles in a particle system.
 Altering the direction and speed of the particles.
 Example : Force (Wind, gravity, drag, PBomb and etc..)
Particles Direction Alteration
2. Deflector

 Cause particles that impact the deflectors to bounce at the

reciprocal angle that they hit the deflector.

 Deflectors are planar and SDeflectors are spherical, while

UDflector allows the selection of a scene object to act as a
deflector.
Tutorial 2
2. Changing particles objects direction by using tools that
cause particles objects direction alteration (Space Warps
and Deflectors)

4. Render the result into .avi file format.

Tutorial 3
 Creating smoke in 3ds Studio Max 8 by using particles
systems and put direction alteration (Space Warps and
Deflector) into particles objects created.
Conclusion
 Common features of particles systems (Emitter and Particles)

 Types of particles (Standard particles, Meta particles and

Instance geometry)

 Types of particles systems (Spray, Snow, Super Spray,

Blizzard, PArray, and PCloud)

 Tools that can be used to alter particles objects direction (Space

Warps and Deflector)
