Escape for people
– A number of factors need to be considered for
escaping people – Occupant numbers and types – Location – Property type – Duration – A sign should be located at each level landing in the stairway. – Awareness of area – People will make a line and follow the emergency routes Refuge areas
– An area of refuge is typically supplied with a steady supply of fresh or filtered
outside air. – Emergency lighting in areas of refuge. – A two way communication system is required on each floor above or below the main floor. – A call box is required in each area of refuge, which can call into a central location called a base station. – If the station is not attended 24 hours a day, the call must automatically call to an outside location and have two-way voice person to person communication capabilities. Accessible toilets
– Used for people with mobility disabilities.
– Cognitive Disabilities, must be hold into a safe place if refuge area is not near. – Such persons with disabilities are preferred to use toilets if accessible. – In previous slide, evacuation plan is discussed. – This area involves hinderances and target is to approach assembly points. – When emergency occurs, you see in the picture that every body leaves his area and moves towards the refuge area/nearest assembly points. – The disables are shifted to the nearest toilets. – This example teaches how to evacuate from emergency situation and is only possible “when you know the area where you are present”.
