ACTIVITIES
“I Can See Your Mind”
Assignment:
Direction: Give the
volume by counting
the number of cubic
units in the following
figures below.
1.) 4 x 3 x 3 = 36 cubic units
2.) 4 x 4 x 4 = 64 cubic units
3.) 5 x 3 x 2 = 30 cubic units
4.) 3 x 3 x 3 = 27 cubic units
5.) 5 x 3 x 4 = 60 cubic units
MAGIC BOX
Objectives:
a. Find the volume of a cube
and rectangular prism in cu.
cm and cu. meter;
b. Realized the value of
helpfulness and cooperation
through class sharing.
A Science teacher handed each of her
pupils a rectangular flowerpot 38 cm by
15 cm. The entire class was brought to
the school garden and the pupils were
asked to fill up their flowerpot with soil
until it reaches a height of 13 cm. How
much soil will be needed by each pupil?
a. Where did the teacher
brought the pupils?

b. What did the teacher

asked them to do?

c. What does the problem

asked us to find?
VOLUME
is the number of cubic
units needed to fill the
shape. It is the amount
of space that is
occupied by a space
figure.
VOLUME
is three-dimensional (3D),
it is composed of the
length x width x the height.
That is why the unit of
measurement used in
volume is always in cubic
units (ex. cm³ and m³).
VOLUME OF
RECTANGULAR PRISM
To find the volume of a rectangular
prism;
First, we have to measure the length,
the width, and the height of the
rectangular prism. Then multiply the
3 dimensions.
Volume = Length x Width x Height

width height
length
Solution:
V= L x W x H
V= 38 cm x 15 cm x 13 cm
V= 7 410 cm3

The soil needed to fill up

the rectangular pot is
7 410 cm .
3
Solution:
V= L x W x H
V= 38 cm x 15 cm x 13 cm
V= 7 410 cm3

7 410 cm3 is read as

“7 410 cubic centimeters”
CUBE
is an example of solid
figure that is three-
dimensional. Since all
the faces of the cube
are square, then the
length, width, height are
all equal. The side
called edges of the cube
and symbolized by S.
VOLUME OF CUBE
To find the volume of a cube;
Multiply the 3 dimensions of the
cube. Since all its sides are equal,
multiply one side by itself 3 times.
Thus, the formula of the volume of
the cube is;
Volume = Side x Side x Side
side
side
side
Solution:
V= S x S x S
V= 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm
V= 8 000 cm3

The volume of the cube is

8 000 cm .
3
Solution:
V= L x W x H
V= 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm
V= 8 000 cm3

8 000 cm3 is read as

“8 000 cubic centimeters”
GROUP ACTIVITY
1
Direction: Each group will be given
1 object. Using a ruler, measure its
length, width and height if it is a
rectangular prism and one side
only if it is a cube. Then find its
volume using the formula given.
You will be only given 5 minutes to
do the activity. If you’re group is
done post your output on the board
and get ready for the reporting.

WRAP-UP
What is Volume?
 Volume is the number
of cubic units needed to
fill the shape. It is the
amount of space that is
occupied by a space
figure.
What is the unit of
measurement used for
volume?
 Volume is measured in
cubic units. The unit of
measurement used could be
cubic cm (cm3) or cubic
m(m3), etc.
How did you find the volume of
a rectangular prism and a
cube?
 To find the volume of a
rectangular prism, we multiply
the length, the width, and the
height. While for the cube we
multiply the side by itself three
times, since the sides of the
cube are all equal.
Can you state the formula in
finding the volume of a cube
and rectangular prism?
 The formula in finding the
volume of a rectangular
prism is V= L x W x H, while
the cube is V= S x S x S or
S3.
Why is it important to learn
how to find the volume of an
object?
It is important to learn
how to find the volume of an
object so that we will know
how much space will be
needed and occupied by a
certain object.
BOARDWORK
Direction: I have here 2 sets of
column, Column A and Column
B. Column A contains different
solid figures while Column B
contains the answer. All you
have to do is to solve for the
volume of the following figures.
As you get the correct answer
post it beside its figure.
