Tata Power was established in 1919 as Tata Electric and pioneered electricity generation in India. Prior to 2000, it comprised three companies - Tata Hydro-Electric established in 1910, Andhra Valley Power Supply established in 1916, and Tata Power established in 1919. In 2001, the three companies merged to form Tata Power. Tata Power is now India's largest private sector power utility with over 3000 MW of installed generation capacity from sources like thermal, hydro, solar and wind. It has a presence across India in generation, transmission and distribution of power.

 Tata Power, erstwhile known as Tata Electric, pioneered the generation of

electricity in India nine decades ago

 Prior to 1st April 2000 the Tata Electric Companies comprised of the following
three Companies:
 The Tata Hydro-Electric Power Supply Company Limited, established in 1910.
 The Andhra Valley Power Supply Company Limited, established in 1916.
 The Tata Power Company Limited, established in 1919.
 In 2001 all the three companies merged to form ‘TATA Power’
