The document summarizes research on the rheological properties of magneto-rheological fluid as a function of particle size and concentration. It describes how magneto-rheological fluid properties change with the application of a magnetic field due to the polarization and alignment of magnetic particles. Test results are presented on developing single particle size and mixed ("dimorphic") particle size magneto-rheological fluids using carbonyl iron particles, silicone oil, and lithium grease additives. The fluids were characterized based on properties like density, viscosity, and shear stress under applied magnetic fields of varying particle concentrations and sizes.

Introduction
Magneto-rheological Fluid: A Smart Material
 Magneto-rheological (MR) Fluids are colloidal
suspensions of magnetic particles in carrier
fluid.
 MR Fluids are smart materials that can alter its
viscosity on application of an external
magnetic field.
 Application of magnetic  field, polarizes and
align magnetic particles to form Particle
chains. Which in turn limits the movement of
MR fluid.
