MTRC

The document discusses a technical seminar on mobile train radio communication presented by M. Anu. It provides an introduction to mobile train radio communication (MTRC) systems, describing how they allow more accurate train positioning and efficient traffic management. It then covers the working of MTRC, including continuous communication of train status to wayside equipment. The presentation addresses advantages like increased capacity and safety, as well as the architecture involving onboard ATP, ATO, and wayside systems. It concludes that mobile communication plays an important role in modern railways but requires choosing the right technology to meet operational needs and increase both productivity and safety.

INTRODUCTION
• MTRC is a railway signaling system that makes use of the
telecommunications between the train and track equipment for
the traffic management and infrastructure control.
• By means of these MTRC systems, the exact position of a
train is known more accurately than with the traditional
signalling system.
• This makes more efficient and safe way to manage the railway
traffic.
WORKING
• In the modern CBTC systems the trains continously calculate
and communicate their status radio to the wayside equipment
distributed along the line.
• This status includes, among other parameters, the exact
position, speed, travel direction and braking distance.
• Its enables the wayside equipment to define on the line that
must never be passed by the trains on the same track.
History
ADVANTAGES
• Increase rail capacity through closer train
operation.
• Improved efficient and flexibility of the rail
network.
• Improved serviced reliability.
• Increased safety.
• Reduced operation and maintenance cost for
track side infractucture.
ARCHITECTURE
Onboard ATP system
• This subsystem is in charge of the continuous
control of the train speed according to the
safety profile, and applying the brake if it is
necessary.
• Onboard ATO system
• It is responsible for the automatic control of the
traction and braking effort in order to keep the
train the threshold established by the ATP
subsystem.
Onboard ATP system

This subsystem is in charge of the continuous control of the train speed according to the
safety profile, and applying the brake if it is necessary.
CONCLUSION

• Mobile communication today is a fast growing field. No one

can deny its role in modern railway operations.
• However there is a need of proper choice of technology
looking into railways operational needs.
• This shall not only help in increasing productivity, but also
help in increasing safety of operations
