Smart Blind Stick

The document describes a smart blind stick designed to help visually impaired people safely navigate obstacles. It uses infrared sensors to detect staircases and ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles up to 4 meters away. When an obstacle is detected, the stick issues an audio message within 39 milliseconds to warn the user, allowing them to walk twice as fast while feeling safe. The stick is low-cost, lightweight, foldable, and has low power consumption. Future work could improve the design's efficiency, convenience and user-friendliness.

ABSTRACT
Visually impaired people find difficulties detecting obstacles in
front of them , during walking in the street, which makes it
dangerous. The smart stick comes as a proposed solution to
enable them to identify the world around. In this paper we
propose a solution , represented in a smart stick with infrared
sensor to detect stair-cases and pair of ultrasonic sensor to
detect any obstacles in front of the user . Moreover , another
sensor is placed at the bottom of the stick for the sake of
avoiding hurdles. This stick is capable of detecting all obstacles in
the range of 4meters during 39 milliseconds and gives suitable
message empowering blind to move twice his normal speed
because he/she feels safe . This smart stick is of low cost , fast
response, low power consumption, light weight and ability to fold.

KEYWORDS:
Infrared sensor, ultrasonic sensor, Electronic Travel Aids(ETAs),
visually impaired blind navigation.
AIM AND OBJECTIVE
AIM:
The main aim of the system is to provide a
efficient navigation aid for the blind persons
which gives a sense of vision by providing the
information about their surroundings and
objects around them.

OBJECTIVES:
The first objective is achieved by applied the
programmable distance and barrier detection
using ultrasonic sensor .

to the existing system more efficient ,
convenient and user-friendly.
RESULT
This paper presents the implementation of a
smart blind stick that assists a visually
impaired person to his destination safe and
secure. We make use of various sensors to
detect the obstacles a head and warn the blind
person about the obstacle through beep sound.
