CLIMATE

• The Netherlands have a temperate. Daytime temperatures varies from 2°C-6°C in the
winter and 17°C-20°C in the summer.
• Rainfall is distributed throughout the year with a dryer period from April to September.
• Sometimes easterly winds can cause a more continental type of weather, warm and dry in
the summer, but cold and clear in the winter with temperatures sometimes far below zero.
The Netherlands is a flat country and has often breezy conditions.
BUSSTOP PARK+RIDE CITYBUS

• In 2007 Lysbeth de Groot, at that time urban designer at the Municipality of Groningen,
designed the Busstop at the waiting area of Park+Ride Citybus Groningen.
• Handicapped access the square by ramps and fysical guidelines are
integrated in the surface
• The timetable of the buses are visible within and outside the waiting
room via an integrated digital information system
• The shape of the building is a clear striking sculpture in the landscape. The openness of
the building creates a public safety. Lighting also plays an important role. The recessions
are partly filled with glass sections, for which is chosen three different color schemes,
which refer to the three directions from where the buses come together. At the same
time, these glass walls also give shelter from wind and rainfall. At the evening the
building is lit in several ways directly and indirectly so that it looks like a multicolored
lantern light. Inside the room round concrete pouffes offer passengers a dry and
sheltered waiting experience. The timetable of the buses are visible within and outside
the waiting room via an integrated digital information system.

CLIMATE

• During the months of June, July, August and September you are most likely
to experience good weather with pleasant average temperatures.
• On average, the warmest month is August.
• On average, the coolest month is January.
• June is the wettest month. This month should be avoided if you don't like too
much rain.
• September is the driest month
• The roofscape of the new central bus station provides form to the hitherto shapeless
area between the railway station and overpass, generating a new hub for modern
mobility in a high-quality urban space. Situated a suitable distance from the central
railway station, the new central bus station presents itself as an extension to the
historical building
• The internal space-defining paneling of the supporting structure is formed
using movable suspended cement-bound plaster supporting plates. The
“graphical“ aspect of the required expansion joints underlines the
dynamically elegant nature of the roof shell.
• Elements organised in a linear fashion form a compact summary of the central bus
station’s necessary functions (information signs, time display, passenger information
system and seating areas).
