What is a sentence?
Examples:

• I am an engineer. CORRECT
Patternis an example for
others to follow.
The concept of pattern is one of the
essential principles of modern methods of
language teaching.
Examples:
Cassie won the match. (Who won the match?)
A cat is killed by the rat. (What is killed by the rat?)
Verbs in this pattern are called
intransitive.

WHAT IS TRANSITIVE VERB?

THE ACTION IN THE SENTENCE. IT IS A WORD
THAT ANSWERS THE QUESTION “WHAT OR

DIRECT OBJECT
Is the receiver of the action in the sentence.
