3D DRONE

SURVEYING
WHY TO USE DRONE??
CURRENT DRONE SURVEYS

• A Winged structure
used to cover farm &
forest.
• It has the capacity to fly
high & fast.
• As they move fast they
are great for covering
more areas.
HOVERING VTOL DRONES
• It doesn’t have any doesn’t any
minimum speed & it can travel
at a speed you write when
someone dictate
• It doesn’t have any specific size.

3d MAPPING
• Precise 3D flight control
+ S.L.A.M
+ New light weight sensors
= Real-time 3D mapping
SLAM

SIMULTANEOUS LOCALIZATION & MAPPING

• Real-time mapping of the

drone’s environment
• Can be used for collision
avoidance without a priori
knowledge of the environment
ACOUSTIC MAPPING
• Flying low and slow means you
can record & map sounds

• Copter acoustic signature is

fairly consistent (~4kHz), easy to
filter out

• Recurring population surveys

AIR SAMPLING

• Samples of air from specific

altitudes with timestamps,
temp, pressure, humidity…
• Gases (e.g. SOx, NOx)
• Microorganisms
• Realtime analysis or sample and
analyze later
CHALLENGES FOR DRONE SURVEYING

• TAKE OFF:In the case of fixed-wing drones,

selecting a suitable location is very difficult, as it
requires a vast stretch of open land.
• Accessibility: Isolated and remote areas are the
most difficult to map and ensuring accuracy in
mapping is even more challenging.
• Transportation: In order to tap the complete
potential of the drone, it should be used at regular
intervals and the movability should not be
troublesome.
• Wind: Wind resistance is a major obstacle in the
path of drone deployment and its
maneuverability. A drone with a higher wind
resistance can be deployed more frequently,
increasing the possibility to execute the project
on time.
