FICCI) is an association of business organisations in India. Established
in 1927, on the advice of Mahatma Gandhi by GD Birla and
Purushottam Das Thakurdas, it is the largest, oldest and the apex
business organisation in India.

FICCI issues and endorses carnets, guarantees the payment of duties


and taxes to customs (both domestic and foreign) authorities.
Functions of FICCI

 Undertakes economic research and encourages scientific


research useful for the development of industry and
commerce.

 Arrangess business education and technical education.

 Publishes periodicals for dissemination of information


useful to business community.

 Provides library facilities to members.


 Offersadvice and suggestion on management, quality
improvement so as to improve competitive strength of
Indian industry.

 Arranges seminars, conferences and workshops on


subjects of importance to business community.

 Sends trade delegations abroad to explore foreign


investment and assists in negotiating bilateral trade
agreements.

 Resolves differences and disputes among members


through arbitration.
CIA
and
it’s functions
CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed
organization. Founded in 1895, it has over 9,000 members, from the private as
well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs, and an indirect membership
of over 300,000 enterprises from around 265 national and regional sectoral
industry bodies.
CII works with the Government on policy issues. CII has been a catalyst of
change in India’s economic policy reforms. CII played a very important role
during economic liberalisation in 1991 which knocked down the high walls of
protection between Indian industry and the rest of the world.
Functions of CII

 Encourages technical research to improve


productivity, quality and human resources.
 Organises trade fairs and exhibition to promote
trade and commerce.
 Arranges seminars, conferences and workshops.
 Sends trade missions to foreign countries.
 Renders constructive cooperation to Government.
 Undertakes research and publishes periodicals.
 Represents business community on policy making
bodies of the Government.
 TheInternational Division of CII serves industry
through networking with Indian overseas missions and
counter parent organisations all over the world.
