NEGROS -ORIENTAL
CEBU
– Cebu lies to the east of negros island to the west Leyte and to the southeast is
bohol province. It is flanked on both sides by the straits of Cebu ( between Cebu
and Bohol ) and Tanon (between Cebu and Negros).
Municipalities and Barangays
In April 1965, the entire Christian world focused its attention on Cebu City, considered as the cradle of
Christianity in the Far East, as its played host to the 40th Anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines.The
celebration highlighted the contribution of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Fray Andres de Urdaneta in
proselytizing Christianity by way of establishing a Spanish settlement in the Province.In a country where
catholics predominate, the conferment of the San AgustinChurch to the title Basilica Minore del Santo Nino
proved to be a momentous occasion as rome sent its representative Papal Legate,His Eminence Ildefonso
Cardinal Antonuitte.
Access to the Province
By Air .An international destinations with flights from Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong arriving almost
daily, Cebu is home to the Mactan International Airport. Cebu is just short- flight –an hour- away from
Manila by plane or 22 hours by boat. It is an ideal jump off point for other tourist attractions in Visayas
and Mindanao.
By Sea .There are ferries that’s provide means of transportation from Manila to Cebu. Cabin
reservations can be arranged by those who are planning to bring along their friends or families. The
Quadruple Cabin sharing has its own toilet and bath. The trip normally takes about a day.
By Land .Cebu can reached by land from Manila with goods roads and Ro-Ro vessels Cebu extensive
roads can take to just about anywhere on the island.

Historical
– Magellan’s Cross ( Magellan’s st.) planted in march 21, 1521 by Ferdinand Magella; spot where the
first Christians Filipinos , Raja Humabon and Queen Juana and about 400 followers , were baptized by
Fr. Pedro Valderama.
– Fort San Pedro (Pier Area Cebu City ) The smallest ,oldest tri- bastion fort in the country .This served
as the nucleus of the Spanish settlement in the Philippines.
– Heritage of Cebu Monument (Colon St.,Cebu City) Located in the in the original Plaza Parain ,it
showcases the significant and symbolic events in the history of Cebu from the time of Raja Humabon
to the recent beatification of Cebuano martyr Pedro Calunsod.
– Magellan Marker (Punta Enganio ,Lapu- lapu City) Inspired by his success in Christianizing the people
of Cebu, Magellan crossed the channel of Mactan Island in an effort to spread before he reach the
shore,he was killed by island cheiftain Lapulapu and his men during the battle for supremacy and
freedom on April 27, 1521.
– Colon Street The oldest street in the Philippines was built by the Spaniards in the time of Miguel Lopez
de Legaspi. Named after Christopher Columbus ,it is the heart of downtown Cebu, a glittering area by
night lined with movie houses, restaurants, department stores, and other business establishments. An
obelisk detailing it’s historical significance was constructed on its northern end.
– Lapu-lapu monument (Punta Enganio,Lapu-lapu City) Site where the battle between Mactan Island
Cheiftain Lapulapu and the foreign aggressor Ferdinand Magellan occurred in April 27,1521. It depicts
the hero holding a bolo in one hand and pestle on the other. Said weapons were believed to have been
used during his combat with Magellan.This monument stand as a reminder of Filipino bravery.
– University of San Carlos (P .del Rosario St.,Cebu City) The oldest school in the country established in
1565. This was formerly called Colegio de San Idelfonso, established by the Jesuits.
– Capitol Building (Osmenia Blvd.,Cebu City ) The seat of the provincial government, is of pre-war
vintage,and has the undulating mountains of Cebu for its background. Majestic and imposing, its high
dome can be seen along Osmenia boulevard.
CULTURAL
– Casa Gorordo Museum (35 Lopez Jaen st. Cebu City) Home of the Filipino Bishop of Cebu, Juan
Gorordo(1862-1934).A tour inside this residence is a breif journey into a Filipino lifestyle in a particular
period between 1860 and 1920.The place presently features noted paintings, museum relics, a
courtyard antique household items and furniture.
– Fort San Pedro National museum( Legaspi Ext.Cebu City) Artifacts taken from the old Spanish Galleon
known as San Diego with in the deep sea of fortune Island off the cost of Nasugbo,Batangas are on
display in this centuries old fort.
– University of San Carlos Museum( P.del Rosario St.Cebu City) A product of years of research activities of
the anthropogical Department’s faculty in Central and Southern Philippines , it has four galleries ;
Spanish Colonial, Ethographic,Archeological, and Natural Science.
– The Southwestern University Museum (Urgello Private Road ,Cubu City) Holds the extensive collection of Lydia
Aznar Alfonso reflecting the flourishing trade,lifestyle, and culture of the port city Cebu in pre historic times.
– Julian Jumalon’s Butterfly Sanctuary and Art Gallery (20-D Macopa St.,Basak,Pardo.,Cebu City) The country’s oldest
butterfly collection and butterfly Sanctuary with live immature and adult –stage local butterflies in their natural
settings. It also houses the Lepido Mosaic Art collection, so called because it utilizes butterfly wings as its medium.
– Rizal Museum and Library within Cebu City l along Osmenia Boulevard, it showcases a collection of Antique donated
by famous and rich Cebuanos Families.
– Arcenas Antique Collection-Spanish period furniture and jewelries,pottery, porcelain wares are on display Dr. and
Mrs. Ramon Arcenas residence located at Banawa, Cebu City.
– Rose Ong Orchid Collection -So beautiful and varied, the biggest orchid collection in the province.
– Aznar Alfonso Antique Collection- Owned by Dr. Lydia Aznar Alfonso, the antique collection is of much younger
vintage.

– Pres. Sergio Osmenia Memorabilia and cap art gallery- Contains an estimated 500 personal
belongings and document worthy of remembrance of the Grand Old Man of Cebu.
– Rizaliana Museum- Contains the memorabilia of Dr. Jose Rizal given by his sister to the university of
southern Philippines Museum.
– Sala piano Museum- A Unique collection of hundreds of pianos of varying sizes and shapes.Venue to
classical concerts and houses a music foundation.
– The cathedral Museum of Cebu- Museum for the Cathedral Heritage of the Church- houses liturgical
– Basilica del St.Nino museum – The museum was first established in the year 1965 by Fr.Ambrisio ‘boy’
J. Galindez OSA, mainly for the purpose of the commemorationof the FourthCentennial celebration of
the Christianizations in the Philippines.
Museo Sugbo ( M.J.Cuenco A ve.,Cebu City) Formally inaugurated by Gov. Gwendolyn F. Garcia on August
5, 2008, the eve of the 349th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Cebu the provincial museum has 12
galleries spread six buildings, all made up of coral stone and lime mortar, the largest collection of Spanish
structures ever to be found in a single site of Cebu.
University of San Carlos Museum (P.del Rosario St.,Cebu City) The University of San Carlos Museum was
founded in 1967 by the late German, Fr. Rudolf Rahmann. The Museum is composed of four galleries
(1)Spanish Colonial Gallery,(2) the ethnographic Gallery(3) the Archaeological Gallery (4) Natural Science
Gallery Ethnographic materials from the Buhid Mangyans of Mindoro whichs ws first collected in 1953 by
Dr.Marcelino Maceda andconcequently was followed by field collection by him and Ffr.Rahmann on the
material culture of the Negritos of Antique.
Kota Park (Bantayan) is located north of the island of Bantayan in the town of Madridejos.The park was
build in the 1790’s as a Spanish front (Kota Fort) and was used to protects the locals from pirates and
Spanish militiamen
Balay na Tisa(Carcar) Also called House of Tiles The Balay na tisa is considered on of the towns valuable
treasures. Inside the house one can find priceless antiques from silver and ceramic dinnerware to the
wooden poster beds, cabinets,tables,and chairs.
Natural
– Mactan Island (Across Mandaue City) A coral island and famous scuba diving site, where beach resorts of
international standards are located .Also the sites of the Export processing Zone,with 102 companies in
operation . Employing 37,118 people .Land area -150 hectares.
– Malapascua Island(across the northern tip of Cebu) it was on Christmas day when the Spaniards reached
the island.According to townfolks ,it was supposed to be a special day of celebration but unfortunately a
storm hit the island and so came the name “Malapacual” Malas sa sa Pasko,which means “Unfortunate
Christmas” in English.Malapascua is sometimes referred called to as “Logon” the main community in the
south. ”Logon” got its name when the Japanese and Americans fought over the island during WWII.
– Camotes Island Located north of Cebu,across Danao City. The island is composed of four towns :PoroSan
Francisci,Tudela and Pilar. To cross the island, one has to go to Danao City, an hour away from Cebu City or
take fast ferry.
– Kawasan Falls (Mututinao Badian) One can feel the surrounding lush greenery of the panoramic
waterfalls.
– Badian Island is 97 kilometers southwest of Cebu City Famous for Beatiful corals,reefs, and white sandy
beaches, making it an excellent diving spot.
– Olanggo Wildlife Sanctuary Olanggo island supports the largest concentration of migratory birds found
so far in the country.
– Moalboal is 89 kilometer south west of Cebu City. Offers white sandy beaches and rich marine life for
scuba diving. Notable as an excellent diving area is the water around Pescador Island.
– Nonoc Cave (Borbon) is 83 kilometers north of Cebu City. Very picturesque view, shelter for picnic goers
and bathers.
– Bantayan Island (Located in the north western tip of Cebu) Serene and tranquil, and boasting of fine
white sand beaches, the island is a favorite holiday hangout ,especially during the Lenten Season.
– Bojo River ( Aloguinsan) is a nature lover’s paradise. Take an eco-cultural trip along the streams of the
river, as communities of fishermen and their families operate the educational tour.
– Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary(Dananjon Bank, near Lapu-lapu City) It is the only double barrier
reefin Southeast Asia and one of only six double barrier reefs in the world.The 256 hectare sanctuary will
be home to Oslob”Tuki” or Butanding, in recent years,with conservation effort and whale shark
consciousness,locals are now harvesting financial gains by preserving the whaleshark rather than
treating them as a food source.

Cebu Botanical Garden ( Camp Marina,Capitol Hills) Where plant hobbyists can see a collection of
greenery.
Liloan Lighthouse Found in the municipality of Liloan around 81 kilometer north of Cebu City. It stand at a
towering height of 72 feet in an uphill area overlooking the spendid Mactan Channel.
Mandaue mactan Bridge - Built in 1972 at cost of P65 million.This 864-meter bridge connects the islands
of Mactan and Cebu
Plaza independencia –A popular hangout during weekends ,centuries old acacia trees dot this park
Fuente Osmenia Park – A lovely cirlular park with a beautiful fountain in the middle.Named after Cebu’s
Grand Old Man ,the late president Sergio Osmena, Sr.
Tops – Situated 2,000 above sea level on the cool hills of Busay.it is an excellent sight-seeing spot which
offers a breathtaking view of Metro Cebu and the islands of Mactan and Olango. Open Kiosks are available
for daytime picnics and instant evening parties
Guitar Factories – It is amazing to note that while guitar making is the ooccupation of the people of
Mactan District. The raw materials used have to be shipped from Mindanao and nowhere on the island can
be found such materials.
Marcelo Fernan Bridge –is an extradosed cable-stayed bridged located in metro cebu. Its spans across
mactan Channel connecting Cebu Island to Mactan Island.
Crocolandia (Biasong, Talisay City)Situated beside the Managa River in Talisay, it has for its main attraction
a mini-zoo and a botanical garden. It is also equipped with picnic areas, restaurants, refreshment center,
souvenir shops, butterfly sanctuary, boat and fishing area, and a library.
– Family Park(Nasipit Talamban)- Nestled in the Nasipit mini-watershed,it provides families with an
alternative and wholesome recreation site within the city.This 20-hectarearea is nature friendly.
– Mountain View Nature’s Park(Sitio Garahe, Busay- Over looking the city, It is situated near the cool
gardens of busay. This park comes with a mini-zoo, accommodations, and canteen
– Golf Courses Alta Vista Golf and Country club- Situated in the lower mountains of pardo, this golf course
offers a different and challenging terrain for the avid golfer.
– Biggest Shoe-Though the shoe was bigger than the one made by Marikina it did not make the Guiness
Book of World Record because it was only half a pair.
Religious Structure
– Basilica Minor del Santo Nino This church was built by Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Fr.Andres Urdaneta on
the site where the image of Santo Nino was found in 1565.The first structure of the church was however
destroyed by fire on November 1568.
– Image of Santo Nino Considered as the oldest religious relic in the Philippines.It was on April 21, 1521 that
Magellan gave the image to Queen Juana as a baptismal gift. Forty four years later, on April 27, 1565, when
Miguel Lopes de Llegaspi arrived in Cebu,Fr.Andres de Urdaneta, who formally Christianized the Cebuanos,
found the natives hostile.
– Taoist temple The temple preserves the teaching of Lao-Tse the 600 B.C Chines philosopher.Everyday
people climb its 81 steps(representing the 81 chapters of Taoism scriptures) to light joss sticks and have
their fortune read.
– Phu-sian Temple A Buddhist temple , the third Chinese temple on Beverly hills located at the right side of
the road to the Taoist Temple.
– Chapel of the Last Supper Life –sized carvings of the Lord Jesus and his 12 Apostles seated at a long
table for the last supper.This is the only one of its kind in the country.This treasured relic is found in the
Church of Mandaue City that dates back to 1601.
– Celestial Garden (Banawa Hills,Cebu City) Owned and managed by the Tanchan foundation.Twelve
hectares of rolling hills where life-size statues depicting the drama of the Stations of the Cross were
built.
– Boljoon Church (Boljoon) is the oldest remaining original stone church in Cebu.The interior on the
church shows old and intricate carvings. It is in pseudo-baroque rococo style.
Festivals
Sinulog Festival every 3rd Sunday of January;province wide) Cebu biggest and most
popular festival.The feast is in the honor of the Holy Image of Senyor Santo Nino de
Cebu.FiestaSenyor, as it is widely known, is the most celebrated among Cebu’s festivals,
where people coverage along the routes of a grand solemn procession and partake in
the gaiety amidst a madri gras parade immersed in wild colors and the constant beating
of drums.
Tagbo (January; Poro, Camotes Island) Celebrated in honor of the Patron Santo Nino de
Poro. Beloved memoir of a living past, Tagbo is the cornerstone from which this great
municipality has sprung. Rich in cultural heritage and deep in spiritual values. Tagbo is a
very significant event preluding the birth of a town very dear to the hearts of her sons
and daughters.
Kadaungan sa Mactan(April 27.,Lapulapu City) A one day re- enactment celebrated with
pomp and pageantry every 27th of April to commemorate the historic battle of Mactan
between the forces of Lapulapu and Ferdinand Magellan.
– Cassava Festival (June 10-11, Camotes Island ) Held with the aim of creating awareness
among the people on the different uses and economic oppurtunities offered by
cultivating cassava.
– Barangayan (June 12,countryside)An annual celebration of Philippine independence held
every June 12.
– Dinagat Festival (August 5;Cordova)The festival is characterized by street dancing and
interpretative dance competition based on the fishing rituals and culture of the
Cordovahanons.
– Nuestra Senora de Regla Fiesta(20-21;Lapulapu City)Held to honor the patrones of opon.
This religious and social events reveals the deep religious faith of the people and their
penchant for merry making. A food fair,carnival processing and a coronation of the fiesta
Queen highlight the festivity.
– Carcar fiesta (24-25;Carcar) Celebrated in the honor of the town’s patron.St.Catherine of
Alexandria. Carcar town is noted for its old Spanish style houses in the quiet countryside
setting. During fiestas, the resident would invite friends relatives and town visitors into
their homes to taste popular local delicacies. A lively and enjoyable events.
– Pasko sa Sugbo(December;Province side) An annual celebration by lighting and
decorating the main throughout in Cebu, starting from capitol down to Plaza
Independencia.
– Sanayon (Variables dates;Cebu City) Agro tourism festival in the southern town of the
second district about 100 kilometers from the city. A month–long activity to spread out
tourism to the countryside
– Via crusis(Lent [Banawa Hills;Cebu City) A Lenten activity where devotees do their
penitential procession through the Stations of the Cross built on 12 hectares of rolling
hills
– Pasko sa Kasakit(Holy Thursday and Good Friday[Variables dates;Bantayan Island) A
religious procession of life-size image of the death and passion of Jesus Christ carried in
richly decorated and lighted carrozas.
Products,Delicacies and Cuisines
– Cebu is known for its guitars, Guitar making is the occupation of the people of Mactan
District and Maribago City District in Lapu lapu City.
– Cebu is also known not only famous for the fresh mangoes but its export quality dried
mangoes.Also known are local bakery products like otap rosquillos, lengua de gato, dried
fish, danngit ,posit, lapu-lapu chicharon from carcar, dried beef tapa,longganisa etc.
– Marine products, fresh and dried are very popular pasalubong from Cebu.
Oriental Negros
– Oriental Negros occupies the south-easthern half of occidental sland of Negros ,with negros
Occidental comprising the north western half.It also includes Apo Island a popular dive site for both
local and foreign tourists. Negros Oriental faces to the east across the tanon Strait and Siquijor to
the south east.
Cities and Municipalities
– The Negros Island is believed to have once been part of the island of Mindanao, but was cut-off-
either by continental drift or the rising waters at the end of ice age. Among the early inhabitants of
the island were dark skinned peoples belonging to the negrito ethnic group, as well as Han Chinese
and malays. They called the island “Buglas” a native word which is believed to mean “cut-off”

By Air.It is the one hour and 15 minutes by plane from manila,and 40 minutes from Cebu to
Dumanguete City.There are daily directs flights from manila
By Sea. There are also daily sea voyages to and from different points in the Visayas and Mindanao and
twice a week to and from Manila.
By Land.It is also accessible via land from different hub across Central Visayas namely Bacolod and

– Baldwin Locomotive (Bais City) rests on memories of its heyday as dean of the hacienda workhorses.
– Spanish Fortress (Ayungon)Remains of a Spanish fortification on the shoreline of Tampocon II
– Central Azucarera de Bais (Bais City)Established in 1918 by the Compania General de Tabacos de
Filipinas SA, or Tabacalera as its first sugar mil in the Philippines.CAB stimulated the growth of Oriental
Negros’ sugar industry.
– Balatong point (Basay) Also called Punta Tabungon by the locals, with rocks and large corals used as
navigation landmarks.The biggest shipment of WWII ammunition for the Negros guerilla movement its
said to have been unloaded here, now the favored dive site of many scuba enthusiasts.
– Siliman University (Dumanguete City) Founded more than a century ago,itcomprises35 hectares
adjacent to downtown Dumanguete, declaredas a bird sanctuary, and noted forits olden trees, cottage
residence,and major buildings such as Guy Hall, Channon Hall, Oriental and Occidental Halls,which the
Japanese occupation forces used for administrative and penal activities.
– Looc Memorial Shrine (Sibulan) Marks the site of the first World War II encounters in Negros Oriental,
on October 11, 1942, when independent partisan guerilla groups joined forces.
– Fil-Am Jap Amity Shrine (Valencia) A three- sided pillar soars above a viewing deck on the Sangbang
hilltop where Filipino, American, and Japanese soldiers clashed in a fierce encounter during World
War II in Oriental Negros.
– Spanish Fountain (Valencia) Devised by an Augustian friar to spout water channeled from a highland
spring, the fountain is now the centerpiece of the sunken Valencia Municipal Plaza.
– Cata-al War Memorabilia (Valencia) Relics of the World War II encounter in Oriental Negros include
Japanese and American materials and personal effects, preserved as part of the private collection of
the Cata-al family in Valencia.
Cultural
– Fleur-de-Lis Hall (Dumaguete city) Housed at St.Paul College, it is noted for its lavish theatrical productions.
The multi-purpose Hall provides more seating and a bigger stage for the school’s cultural presentations.
– Luce Auditorium (Dumaguete city) Siliman University’s modern cultural center is the fully airconditioned
venue for local and international performing artists and also houses a ballet studio and a spacious lobby for
exhibits.
– Sidlakang Negros NOREA showrooms (Dumaguete City) The arts and crafts hub of Oriental Negros; two
browse around shops- the main showroom in the Sidlakang Negros Building at the Capitol Area and another
at Products of Negros Oriental in Noblefranca. St.., downtown Dumaguete , both operated by the Negros
Oriental Entrepreneurs Association (NOREA).
Mariyab Gallery (Dumaguete City) -Central Venue of Oriental Negros’ visual artist, an extensive inventory
of Books of Filipino authors are also found at the gallery.
Sinco Memorabilia Museum ( Dumaguete City) - Repository of works and personal effects of Vicente G.
Sinco, a signatory of UN charter. Also houses an exhibit of objects d’art and crude implements of early
Negrenses. Established in 1949 by Dr. Sinco as his masterwork , the museum is located in Foundation
University.
Siliman University Ethno-Antro Museum( Dumaguete City)-Exhibits of artifacts and archaeological finds
dating some 2,000 years back;also showcases an ethnographic collection from the country’s tribal
monirities.
Siliman University Library (Dumanguete City ) - Largest collection of books and publications in the
province , with ample space for regular exhibits.
Negros Oriental Arts and Heritage (Bacong)- Export-quality stone craft items are manufactured here.
NATURAL
– Lag-it Beach (Bais City) a Magnificent seven-kilometer stretch of powder-white sand that disappears in the
clear water at high tide, a unique adventure for swimmers.
– White Sand Reef (Bais City) It’s shoreline is a vast stretch of powder-white sand and sparkling azure waters;
ideal for swimming and diving.
– Camangyawon Beach(Basay) Fine white sand beach bracketed by twin rivers that hug the island in
Camangyawon, a municipal fish port complex located in the area.
– Nagbo-alao Cave and Beach(Basay) Fine pebbled beach line with prominent rock formations and coves just
off the highway; reached by interesting foot paths.
– Antulang Beach( Siaton) Strip of white pebble beaches between Zamboanguita and Siaton; Interesting rock
formation on the beach; clear waters and underwater scenery ideal for snorkeling.
– Talisay Beach Park( Bacong) Popular public resort operated by the Bacong Municipal Government. Has a
coconut grove and gardens, which cottages for picnic goers; three houses perched atop Talisay trees for
longer-term accommodation. Usual take-off point for visit to nearby Negros Oriental Arts and Heritage
(NOAH) stone craft factory, sinamay weaving center, and the Bacong church.
– Tambolo Beach( siaton) Located along Bonbonon Bay, it is good site for windsurfing, scuba diving and sailing;
cottages amid the white pebbled beach, with a restaurant to serve beach enthusiasts.
– Apo Island Beach Resort (Dauin) Formerly known as Kan-Upe Cove Resort, this is an internationally
acclaimed dive site with eight regular and honeymoon cottages.The 12 hectare island has a hilly terrain and
white –pebbled lagoon.The Balwarte Rocks and Oriental Negros Marine Conservation Park, with its
spectacular coral gardens and marvelous marine life,are consistent crowd drawers.Apo island is accessible by
a 35-minute boat ride from Zamboaguita.
San Moritz Beach ( Agan –Agan , Sibulan) Swimming and beachcombing area with five naturally ventilated
cottages for rent, with balcony and bathroom , under shady trees; game room available.
Mina’s Undersea World (Zamboanguita ) is 200 yards from the beach, a veritable marine garden for
snorkeling and swimming. In this area are water tanks with white sea turtles and other marine creatures.
Banica Swimming Lagoon (Valencia) Two river fed swimming pools in the garden setting, with restrooms and
canteen.It is a favorite hangout of picnic goers due to its proximity to Dumanguete City.
Pasaka-an Spring (Mabinay) A poblacion landmark spring –fed lake amid a forested area,ideal for picnics and
bathing.The spring is the towns main source of potable water.
San Isidro Hot Spring (Tanjay) Hot Spring bordered by mangroves,located in Barangay San Isidro.
Inyawan Enchanted Falls (Canlaon City) Flows 100 feet off Inyawan River at the edge of a forest. Cold and
clear waters cascade downstream to join Masaulog River.
Ouiapot Falls (Canlaon City) Bottle-shaped water cascade about 100 feet .largest of three neighboring
waterfalls fed by the Binalbagan,Malaiba,and Linothangan tributaries.Deep basin ideal for swimming and
boating.
Pulang Bato Falls (Valencia) Cool clear waters cascading over reddish rock formations creating an
awesome two toned waterfalls.
Casaro Falls (Valencia) Cool waters cascade down to a swimming basin, almost enclosed by step precipices
and lush vegetation. Hikers traverse an adventurous nature trail. Considered the province’s most
photographed falls.

from canlaon city 165.7 km from Dumanguete City.
Makawiwili Ridge (Canlaon City) Also known as the ”saddle in the sky "the ridge is located between two
mountain peaks 8,000 feet above sea level, and frequently used by scientists as a vantage point in
observing the two craters of Canlaon Volcano.
– Mt. Talinis (Valencia) oriental negros prominent peaks ,the Cuermos de Negros or Horns of Negros rise
5,095 feet above sea level and are situated nine kilometer southwest of Valencia.
– Cayaso Cave(Mabinay) An underground river located one kilometer from the poblacion Municipal Hall.
Three kilometers long and six feet wide, the cave goes 20 feet down a winding stone pathway leading to
an underground river of potable drinking water but without a visible outlet.
– Mabinay Cave (Mabinay)Some 32 minor and major caves identified by a Dutch- Belgian expedition in
1990.Awe-inspiring limestone formations and underground rivers await spelunkers.
– Pandaliban Cave(Mabinay) Stalactites and stalagmites abound in this cave which is accessible by foot.

dolphin and pygmy sperm whales.Dolphin and Whale watching activities are ideal between May and

when playful dolphins surface from their natural habitat to put up an acrobatic show for enthusiasts

– Church of St. Agustine of Hippo and and Pipe Organ (Bacong) Completed in 1865 and
situated by the sea. Main altar repeated to br the province’s oldest and it’s pipe organ

Joaquin Soriano.
– Dumanguete Belfry or Campanario Erected in 1811 as bell tower of the Cathedral of St.
Catherine of Alexandria and watchtower to forewarn town folks of impending attack of

Zoo Paradise of the World (Zamboanguita) Set in an ipil-ipil forested area, it is Fr. Eleuterio
Tropa’s collection of live and stuffed wildlife, memorabilia, and ecological conversation action

FESTIVAL
Daro Sinulo ( 3rd week of January ; Dumaguete City) The traditional festival in barangay Daro is held in
honor of the Infant Jesus. The barangay’s various “puroks” participates as “tribus” (tribes).
Buglasan (May 4; Dumaguete City) The festival of festivals, Buglasan brings together the finest street
dancers of the province for a day of competition and merrymaking. Other activities include an agri-tourism
fair, pageants, and musical variety shows.
Ayuquitan Festival ( May 7; San Jose) The town’s name is derived from inukitan or bird pickings,
recounted in colorful production numbers.
Fluvial Procession of Sibulan (June 12; Sibulan) Percedes the June 13 fiesta of St.Anthony de Padua.
Lighted and decorated vessels ferry the saint’s image and devotees along the waters off the town, which
attracts mammoth crowds of supplicants to the patron’s shrine in the parish church.
Sinulog de Tanjay (June 24; Tanjay City) Street dancing and a mock battle between the Moros and
Christians, followed by their reconciliation through the intercession of town patron Senor Santiago, held on
the eve of the patron’s feast day.
Budyas (June 29; Tandayag, Amlan) Traditional ritual invokes good fortune on fishermen their boats and
paraphernalia; fluvial procession of elaborately decorated vessels ferry patrons St. Peter and St. Paul
between the two chapels of Tandayag.
Hudyaka Festival ( September 7; Bais City) Highlight of the Bais City fiesta and charter Day celebration;
features street dancing and mardi gras with showdown competition and grand floats.
Balik Lantaw sa Amlan (November 28; Amlan) A dance festival depicting the folk ways of Amlan.
Hugyawan Dalansayaw (December; Dumaguete City) Hugyawan means “merrymaking”
and is the main concept of the celebration and street dancing presentations, with contingets
coming from all parts of the province.
