BROAD TYPOLOGY OF THESIS
The nature and typology of my thesis topic is Study and Design based. NID
at Amaravati is a Live proposal by Government of India.
PHILOSOPHY OF DESIGN AND THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
• The National Institute of Design (NID) is internationally acclaimed as one of
the foremost multi-disciplinary institutions in the field of design education
and research.
• NID’s functions as an autonomous body under the department of Industrial
Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
• The mandate for NID is to offer world-class design education and to
promote design awareness and application towards raising the quality of life
and Education to create design professionals of excellence to help meet
India’s diverse design needs.
• The function of the design is to give unparalleled platform to the students
for collaborative and creative strategies for the real world.
AIM
To design a world class Institute of design at Amaravathi that will provide an open
and free learning environment which inspires creative thinking.
JUSTIFICATION OF THE TOPIC
 As the upcoming capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati is envisioned to be a city of
world-class standards with a vision of increasing Andhra Pradesh’s prominence in the
world.
 The National Institute of Design, Vijayawada, which is presently running its temporary
campus on the premises of Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur, is planning to shift
to its own premises to come up in Amaravati region in a sprawling 50 acre land allotted
by the state government.

OBJECTIVES
• To study about the characteristics and space requirements of various departments
of the institute to design.
• To design a site responsive campus
• To design an open and free learning environment which inspires creative thinking.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS


The actual proposal consists of Administrative blocks,various departmental blocks,
student quarters,training centre,auditoriums,Open amphitheatre,library,exhibition
halls,faculty quarters,staff quarters,guest house,parking facilities to satisfy the all
requirements of all user groups.
I am focussing on designing of Master plan for the 50 acre campus and designing of
Academic Core(Department blocks,amphitheatre,library,auditorium,exhibition halls)
and required services.
DEPARTMENTS
The NID offers courses in design -- Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD), a
four-year graduate programme.

In Each department,The maximum number of intake is 25,keeping the total
seats as 75.
No of Faculties
At present,there are Seven Regular Staffs and five Visiting faculties at NID, Vijayawada.

METHODOLOGY

Area Requirements study,requirements are framed out and
area chart will be finalized based on the
analysis and standards.

further help in deriving conceptual plan.

• NID Ahamedabad is the Main Campus and

and Development activities related to
Bangalore. design and it was established in 2006 .
• The campus is designed by Karan Grover &
Associates, Vadodara.
• The aim of the study about various
spaces,requirements and functioning of
NID.
3.IIM,Bangalore

• The Indian Institute of Management


Bangalore it was established in 1973.
• The campus is designed by B.V.Doshi.
• The aim of the study is to understand the
way an institutional campus is designed.

Literature Case Study:


1.National Institute of Design,Gandhinagar
• NID Gandhinagar campus ,a PG Campus
and it was established in 2001
• The campus is designed Kapadia and
Banker Architects,Ahamedabad.
• To study about design approach of the
architect.
2.IIM Kozhikode
• The Indian Institute of Management
Kozhikode was set up by the Government of
India and it was established in 2001 .
• The campus is designed by the late architect
Joseph Allen Stein and Stein Mani Chowfla
Associates, New Delhi.
• The aim of the study is to understand the way
an institutional campus is designed.

CONCLUSION
Indian design is maturing with every passing day. This brings out both challenges
and opportunities. Indian design has every potential to be amongst the international
elite.NID will be a good platform for students to raise Indian design education to
global standards of excellence.The spaces will be created to enhance creative thinking
of the user.
