Number theory is branch of pure

mathematics dealing with the study


of the set of positive whole numbers

CLASSIFICATION OF NUMBERS

 Natural Numbers/Counting Numbers – the set of numbers


greater than zero; numbers that you can physically count.
 Whole Numbers – the natural numbers plus zero.
 Integers – are whole numbers, both negative and positive,
including zero.
 Non-integers – consists of fractions that can be written as
terminating or repeating decimals.
 Rational Numbers – are numbers that can be written as a fraction
where both the numerator and denominator are integers.
 Irrational Numbers – are decimal numbers that can’t be written as
fractions. A non-terminating and non-repeating decimal.
 Real Numbers – the set of real numbers including all the rational
and irrational numbers.
