 Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a

pseudoscientific approach to communication, personal

development, and psychotherapy created by Richard
Bandler and John Grinder in California, United States in
the 1970s. NLP's creators claim there is a connection
between neurological processes (neuro), language
(linguistic) and behavioral patterns learned through
experience (programming), and that these can be
changed to achieve specific goals in life. Bandler and
Grinder also claim that NLP methodology can "model"
the skills of exceptional people, allowing anyone to
acquire those skills. They claim as well that, often in a
single session, NLP can treat problems such as phobias,
depression, tic disorders, psychosomatic illnesses, near-
sightedness, allergy, common cold, and learning
disorders.
Speech recognition is an interdisciplinary subfield of
computational linguistics that develops methodologies and
technologies that enables the recognition and translation of
spoken language into text by computers. It is also known as
automatic speech recognition (ASR), computer speech
recognition or speech to text (STT). It incorporates
knowledge and research in the linguistics, computer
science, and electrical engineering fields.
An ADC translates the analog waves of your voice into
digital data by sampling the sound. The higher the
sampling and precision rates, the higher the quality. To
convert speech to on-screen text or a computer command, a
computer has to go through several complex steps. When
you speak, you create vibrations in the air.
Examples of Speech Recognition:

1. Apple – Siri(Initial Release: October 12, 2011)

2. Microsoft – Cortana(Initial Release: January 2015)
3. Google – Google Assistant(Initial Release: October 20,
2016)
4. Amazon - Alexa(Initial Release: November 2014)
A conversational user interface (CUI) is a user interface for
computers that emulates a conversation with a real human.
Historically, computers have relied on text-based user
interfaces and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) (such as the
user pressing a "back" button) to translate the user's desired
action into commands the computer understands. While an
effective mechanism of completing computing actions, there
is a learning curve for the user associated with GUI. Instead,
CUIs provide opportunity for the user to communicate with
the computer in their natural language rather than in a
syntax specific commands.
Examples of Conversational UI:

1. Nordstrom Chatbot and Operator offering personalized

discovery
2. KLM sharing flight information via Facebook
Messenger
3. Telegram using buttons for discovery and shortcuts
Cognitive security is the application of AI technologies
patterned on human thought processes to detect threats and
protect physical and digital systems. Like other cognitive
computing applications, self-learning security systems use
data mining, pattern recognition and natural language
processing to simulate the human brain, albeit in a high-
powered computer model. Such automated security
systems that are designed to solve problems without
requiring human resources. Cognitive security may be
particularly helpful as a way to prevent cyber attacks that
manipulate human perception. Such attacks, sometimes
referred to as cognitive hacking, are designed to affect
people's behaviors in a way that serves the attacker's
purpose.
Computer vision is an interdisciplinary scientific field that
deals with how computers can be made to gain high-level
understanding from digital images or videos. From the
perspective of engineering, it seeks to automate tasks that
the human visual system can do. Computer vision tasks
include methods for acquiring, processing, analyzing and
understanding digital images, and extraction of high-
dimensional data from the real world in order to produce
numerical or symbolic information, e.g. in the forms of
decisions.
Examples of Computer Vision:

1. Learning 3D shapes to build models(cars, chairs, etc…)

2. DARPA's Visual Media Reasoning
3. AI movie restoration
4. Building digital maps from satellite images
5. Aerial image recognition
Quantum computing is the study of a non-classical model
of computation. Whereas traditional models of computing
such as the Turing machine or Lambda calculus rely on
"classical" representations of computational memory, a
quantum computation could transform the memory into a
quantum superposition of possible classical states. A
quantum computer is a device that could perform such
computation. Quantum computing began in the early 1980’s
when physicist Paul Benioff proposed a quantum
mechanical model of the Turing machine. Richard Feynman
and Yuri Manin later suggested that a quantum computer
could perform simulations that are out of reach for regular
computers. In 1994, Peter Shor developed a polynomial-
time quantum algorithm for factoring integers.
6 Things that will improve because of
Quantum Computing:

1. Online security
2. Artificial intelligence
3. Drug development
4. Traffic control
5. Tackling the whole problem
6. Improve weather forecasting and climate change predictions
Human enhancement (HE) can be described as the natural,
artificial, or technological alteration of the human body in
order to enhance physical or mental capabilities. Human
enhancement (HE) refers to any attempt to temporarily or
permanently overcome the current limitations of the human
body through natural or artificial means. The term is
applied to the use of technological means to select or alter
human characteristics and capacities, whether or not the
alteration results in characteristics and capacities that lie
beyond the existing human range.
Three forms of human enhancement currently exist:
Reproductive, Physical, and Mental.

1. Reproductive enhancements - Embryo selection

2. Physical enhancements - Cosmetics (plastic surgery &
orthodontics)
3. Mental enhancements – Nootropics, neuro-stimulation,
and supplements that improve mental functions.
