    Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe(1886-


    1969) is a German-American
    architect. He was the last director of
    the Bauhaus. He worked alongside
    Le Corbusier and F.L. Wright.
    All his buildings had “skin and bone”
    architecture and used modern
    materials such as plate glass,
    industrial steel and reinforced
    concrete.

    In constructing this building, for the first
    time in the history of modern architecture,

    The use of glass
    extensively on the
    south-eastern side is
    to receive the
    maximum amount of
    light and heat and in
    the north-western
    side,walls are mainly
    used to not allow the
    heat to transmit to the
    outside, to trap the
    heat inside the house

    east part of building is set in the slope which helps to minimize the heat losses –
    the soil serves as insulation. While the south-west part of building is open (all
    three floors are above the terrain) and maximizes solar gains.

    TRANSLUCENT GLASS IS USED TO BLOCK THE DIRECT VIEW FROM THE ROAD
    The use of a different color for the
    dining table and some other
    furnitures in the kitchen is to
    highlight the importance of the
    place. This kitchen is used for
    multi purposes and also used as
    dining area. So to specify the
    importance of the place the table
    and other furnitures has a
    different colour

    has been covered in glass in two sides to receive
    maximum sunlight and heat transmission into the
    space.
