Filteration Technologies
 There are mainly 4 types of filterations,
they are
 Ultrafiltration
 Microfiltration
 Reverse osmosis
 Nano filtrations.

Microfilteration Reverse Osmosis

Nano filtration-Membrane
Technology.
Nanofiltration is a pressure related
process during which seperation
takesplace based on molecule size.NF is
mainly applied in drinking water
purification process steps,such as water
softening,decolouring,and micropollutant
removal.
Experimental Apparatus For NF
Experiments
Selective NF For Proteins, DNA.
 The filter consists of a polycarbonate membrane etched
with tiny, evenly sized pores less than `10`nm,a few
billionths of an inch in size. The pores are lined with a
thin layer of gold and then with another layer of oily
molecules called thiols. The thiols spontaneously
arrange themselves into a membrane 1 molecule deep,
with all the thiol molecules pointing the same way. These
thiols are chains of carbon atoms, with a sulphur atom at
one end and an acidic region at the other end. The
sulphur allows the thiol to stick to the gold layer and the
acidic end can then interact with whatever flows past.
The final pores are less than 9 nm wide.
World’s First Nano Material Based
Water Filter.
Nano Filtration Benefits:
 Lower operating costs.
 Lower energy costs.
 Lower discharge, less waste water than RO.
 Reduces salt (TDS) content of slightly brackish water.
 Reduces pesticides.
 Reduces heavy metals.
 Reduces nitrates and sulphates.
 Reduces colour and turbidity.
 Softens hard water.
 Chemical free i.e; doesn’t use salts or chemicals.
Characteristics Of Nano
Membrane:
1) Nanofilter (plate type) is composed of ultra micro pore size
membranes.
2) NF supplies “Living and fresh” spring water without filtering mineral
ingredients, nourishing elements of water.
3) Not a drop of water is wasted for the purpose of purifying water.
4) NF prevents water from breeding harmful germs compounding silver
ion on the surface of a membrane and the pores in the membranes
are very minute, no bacteria as well as colon bacilli are passed
through.
5) The membrane of this NF can withstand against hydraulic pressure
more than 8kg, for its made up of strong pressure resistant film.
6) This NF can effectively eliminate organic compound and bad smells
etc.
7) As the NF is strong and durable in use and lasts a long time, its very
economical and convenient.
Compositions of Nano Filters:
New Nanomembranes
 Imagine having layers of
membranes into which
specialized substances are
placed to do specific jobs

You can put a chemical

in the filter that will kill
bacteria upon contact!
Bacteria could be
implanted in nanomembranes
FOR THE HIV FILTARATION:

 Scientists have
developed specially
designed ceramic
membranes for
nano filtrations,
which are so
advanced they have
the potential to
remove viruses
from water, air and
blood.
Applications of NF:
1)Desalination of food, dairy and beverage products
or byproducts.
2)Desalination of dyes and optical brighteners.
3)Colour reduction or manipulation of food products.
4)Concentration of food, dairy and beverage
products or byproducts.
5)Fermentation byproduct concentration.
Conclusion

Nanofilteration is also becoming more

widely used in food processing
applications such as dairy for
simultaneous concentration and partial
(monovalent ion) demineralization.
