LOCATION
The Mountain Dwellings is located in Orestad city and offer the best of
two worlds:

- closeness to the hectic city life in the centre of Copenhagen

- the tranquillity characteristic of suburban life.

Orestad is around 5-10 kms from the city center along with other
multi storeyed housing in a similar context.

CLIMATE CONDITIONS-The climate of Denmark is cold in winter and


mild in summer. Fluctuation between 22-0 degree celsius.

In Copenhagen, 525 mm (20.5 in) of rain (or snow) fall per year.
Here is the average precipitation.

PRIVACY FACTOR- Extremely safe and open terraces and access.

INTRO
The program Is 2/3 parking and 1/3 living

What if the parking area became the base upon which to place
terraced housing - like a concrete hillside covered by a thin layer of
housing, cascading from the 11th floor to the street edge

The parking area needs to be connected to the street, and the homes
require sunlight, fresh air and views, thus all apartments have roof
gardens facing the sun, amazing views and parking on the 10th floor.

The Mountain Dwellings appear as a suburban neighbourhood of


garden homes flowing over a 10-storey building - suburban living
with urban density.

FEATURES
PARKING

The residents of the 80 apartments will be the first in


Orestaden to have the possibility of parking directly outside
their homes. The gigantic parking area contains 480 parking
spots and a sloping elevator that moves along the
mountain's inner walls. In some places the ceiling height is
up to 16 meters which gives the impression of a cathedral-
like space.
ROOF GARDEN

The roof gardens consist of a terrace and a garden with plants


changing character according to the changing seasons. The
building has a huge watering system which maintains the roof
gardens. The only thing that separates the apartment and the
garden is a glass façade with sliding doors to provide light and
fresh air.
APPEARANCE- NOVELTY FACTOR

The north and west facades are covered by perforated


aluminium plates, which let in air and light to the
parking area. The holes in the facade form a huge
reproduction of Mount Everest.

At day the holes in the aluminium plates will appear


black on the bright aluminium, and the gigantic
picture will resemble that of a rough rasterized photo.

At night time the facade will be lit from the inside and
appear as a photo negative in different colours as
each floor in the parking area has different colours.

The 8 House sits on the outer edge of


the city as the southern most outpost of
Orestad.
CONCEPT

A simple building block for 476 DU and 400 workspaces.


An Urban cell split for the residential and commercial spaces.
The 8 House stacks all ingredients of a lively urban neighborhood into horizontal
layers of typologies connected by a continuous promenade.
Instead of dividing the different functions of the building – for both habitation and trade – into separate
blocks, the various functions have been spread out horizontally.

● The 8 House creates two intimate
interior courtyards, separated by the
centre of the cross which houses 500
sqm of communal facilities available for
all residents.
● At the very same spot, the building is
penetrated by a 9 meter wide
passage that allows people to easily
move from the park area on its
western edge to the water filled canals
to the east.
● The apartments are placed at the top
while the commercial program unfolds
at the base of the building. As a result,
the different horizontal layers have
achieved a quality of their own: the
apartments benefit from the view,
sunlight and fresh air, while the office
leases merge with life on the street.

● The focus on environmental considerations
extends from material choices to the form of
the building itself, which combines courtyard
and high-rise building elements by gradually
splitting the 75-meter corner tower into a pair
of terraced wings that create both a central
courtyard and abundant outdoor balcony
and roof space for residents.
● which used two shipping containers as
structural elements for a four-bedroom house
that also incorporated particle board finish
pieces made from recycled lumber, recycled
champagne cork bathroom tiles and facade
panels derived from recycled granulated
paper.
● Along with the environmental benefits of using
repurposed and recycled material, the design
philosophy behind the project is also intended
to connect the new building to the context
and character of its surroundings.

Occupying a strategic position in the heart of
Bangalore, the clients brief saw a potential for
limited ‘Sky Villas’ where the architecture would
re-interpret new levels of luxury in living.

The built form and landscape is worked out to


capture and involve the vibrant richness of the
city’s flora.

The design challenge was to capitalize on the


potential of the 30,000 Sqft site without
compromising on the existing green cover and
minimizing the ecological footprint of the
structure.

The idea of going higher was restricted by the


existing Byelaws which did not allow the
building to go beyond 12m. The master plan had
to thus examine and organize the programs of
the site to address the complexities of Super
luxury living within the Green Parameters
embedded within the site context.
SITE PLANNING
Two blocks were planned to house one
apartment on each side per floor that
would emerge from sunken gardens and
blend into the peripheral greens amidst the
site.

Each block was articulated using the


existing vegetation as a stencil and building
was thus carved out.

To compensate on the loss of lower


vegetation from the site during the
construction, every floor plate extends into
greens and balconies generating great
diversity within the site context.
APPROACH TAKEN TO GREEN COVER
BIO CLIMATIC DESIGN

An integrated design approach was followed to evaluate and


maximize the energy reductions of the building.

Solar studies and simulations were used to generate data


regarding daylighting, shadow analysis, rainfall pattern and
shading systems.

These studies, along with lighting analysis, were critical to


generate the load calculations and sizing and selection of all
the Mechanical Systems.

To optimize the cooling effect, the building mass and window


openings were shaped and sized to best capture the breezes
based on Computer Generated Simulations.

The Vertical Shading devices are combined with Horizontals


to cut off harsh rays of the sun. This functions as a rain
protector and also multiplies as a Visual Barrier Sideways.
CONSTRUCTION ANALYSIS
The construction deals intensely on using
green materials to integrate multiple
sustainable features into the project.

Using materials like AAC Blocks, PV Cells


for solar lighting, Solar Reflective tiles for
High heat reflectance, Double Glazed
Windows, Permeable Paving & Rain
water harvesting for Ground Water
Recharge are few of the systems that
saves significant energy and minimizes
the carbon footprint.

The building thus functions as a selective


environmental filter, enhancing the best
components of the regional climate to
address heating, cooling and ventilation
needs of the structure.
While the concept of the building focuses on green
factors of design and use of sustainable materials,
the aesthetic character of the building is far from
being compromised.

With individual residential units being


approximately 10,000 sqft in size, the ecological
elements are conscientiously woven together with
the luxury requirements of the project that
conclusively expresses a contemporary response
which further establishes a contextual relationship
and giving each residence the highest degree of
originality.
King's House offers remarkable magnificence of space and luxury in the Heart of Bangalore. It houses seven
exclusive residences with areas ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 square feet, each is intricately crafted to suite
an exquisite lifestyles.

Each residence enjoys its own private space as the building is split into two separate wings. A flat takes up the
whole floor of its respective wing.
The structure extends into the surrounding grounds connecting each flat with greenery. This brings a slice of
nature to a sheltered yet central location in the city.

EXCLUSIVE LOCATION

Though occupying a quiet enclave King's House is by no means isolated. With the entrance on Millers Road this
sanctuary is in close proximity to the best hospitality, commercial and medical facilities in the city.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

From conception to completion we have strived to minimize our carbon footprint as far as possible. The building
integrates a range of features such as solar cells, rainwater harvesting, specialized construction materials and
more to deliver a environmentally friendly and responsible structure.
