What is Working Bibliography means?

A working bibliography is a list of the books and other


sources that are referred to in a scholarly work-such as an
essay, term paper, dissertation, or a book. The bibliography
comes at the end of the work.
In gathering data or evidence you need to:

• Record and cite your sources


• List them alphabetically at the end of your paper
• Start by reading closely for specific information

Bibliography

Quote Directly- you can use it when the exact words of the author
or source are the best way of expressing the idea or statement. (“ ”)

Paraphrase- rephrase the language of the original writer without


distorting his main idea.
Summarizing- your summary should be concise to contain
only the essential information gleaned from the source.
Documenting Source of Information
Documenting sources of information is acknowledging the sources of
information used in your composition generally means showing within the text
where borrowed ideas begin and end as well as furnishing a complete list of
sources at the end of the paper.
According to Hunter (2011), Documenting your academic
paper is important because:

1. Writers or sources of ideas want to get credit for their contribution to the
world
2. Failing to cite violates the right of the person who originated the idea.
3. Academics need to be able to trace the genealogy of ideas.
Hunter (2011), offers the following
situations if when to cite:

1. Cite the work of individuals whose ideas, theories, or research have directly
influenced your work.
2. Citing an article means you have personally read the “cited” work.
3. Cite ideas, which are not common knowledge.

• American Psychological Association (APA)
• Modern Language Association (MLA)
• Chicago Manual of Style (CMS)
American Psychological Association (APA)

APA is used in most social sciences courses, its places emphasis


on the date a work was created. APA citation records the date of a
particular work in the physical text. The date is placed
immediately after the author’s name in the “References” page at
the end.

Modern Language Association (MLA)

MLA is widely used and accepted in most academic settings


and primarily used in the humanities, particularly in the
disciplines of arts, such as language and literature. MLA
emphasize the authorship and the author is the first thing to
appeared in your work cited.

Chicago Manual of Style (CMS)

Chicago is often the preferred choice for those working


in history and other social sciences. Chicago is a system
used by professional researchers and scholars.

• This system uses footnotes, endnotes, and bibliographies. It’s
most often used by those working in history, literature, and art.

Author-Date
• This system uses in-text citations and bibliographies to structure Chicago
citations. It’s most often used by those working in social sciences and
sciences.
