Conditions On Parallelogram

This document discusses the conditions that make a quadrilateral a parallelogram. It lists five conditions: 1) both pairs of opposite sides are congruent, 2) both pairs of opposite angles are congruent, 3) any consecutive angles are supplementary, 4) the diagonals bisect each other, and 5) one pair of opposite sides is congruent and parallel. It provides examples of quadrilaterals that satisfy the conditions and are therefore parallelograms, as well as exercises involving determining variables to satisfy parallelogram conditions.

FOODS FOR THOUGHT!
OBJECTIVES FOR THE DAY
•Determine the conditions that make a
quadrilateral a parallelogram.
•Apply the conditions to prove that a
quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
•Apply the properties of quadrilaterals
and conditions for a parallelogram to
solve problems.
Aside from the definition of a
parallelogram, it has two pairs of
parallel sides; any of the following
conditions can be used to prove
that a quadrilateral is a
parallelogram;
Conditions that make a quadrilateral a
parallelogram:
1. If both pairs of opposite sides are congruent,
then the quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
2. If both pairs of opposite angles are congruent,
then the quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
3. If any consecutive angles are supplementary,
then the quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
4. If the diagonals bisect each other, then the
quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
5. If a pair of opposite sides is congruent and
parallel, then the quadrilateral is a
parallelogram.
