Celox gauze is a hemostatic gauze containing chitosan granules that is used to control moderate to severe external bleeding. It works by absorbing fluid from blood to form a gel plug that seals the wound. To use it, firmly pack the unfolded gauze directly onto the bleeding source and apply pressure for 3 minutes before wrapping with a bandage and evacuating the casualty. The gauze is meant to be left in place until reaching further medical care.

CoTCCC Guideline approval is for junctional areas where a
tourniquet is not effective. How it works
1. Celox absorbs fluid from
blood, swells and forms a gel. 2. Positively charged Celox attracts negatively charged red blood cells, locking them together in a gel-like plug. 3. The adherent gel plug seals the wound. Using Celox gauze (1) 1. Apply gloves. Tear open pack. Take out the Celox Z-fold Gauze and take hold of one end with the other hand.
2. Tightly pack the unfolding Celox
Z-fold Gauze directly to the source of bleeding. Pack remaining wound cavity with Celox Z-fold Gauze or standard gauze. Excess Celox can be torn or cut if necessary. Using Celox gauze (2) 3. Apply FIRM pressure directly to the wound for 3 minutes. If bleeding persists apply direct pressure for an additional 3 minutes.
4. Wrap and tie with a bandage so
as to maintain pressure on the wound. Use two-person technique where possible
