Electronic device has took over our world. We are in an era where phones has become a crucial
part of our daily lives with communication, music, entertainment and information gathering.
We find a lot of phones on a daily basis and it’s important for a product like a phone holder to
access the functionality of a phone, evaluate and create creative ideas and solutions depending
on the characteristics and features of the phone. This product will make it convenient for all
people who uses the phone holder.
Problem: If we hold our phones for a long time while lying down, your arm will get tired and
uncomfortable. But what if we had a phone holder where you can watch, hear and charge while
not holding your phone?
Design Brief
This product replaces the holder of the phone which allows for full functionality of the phone. It
is designed to be used by people who wants good audio, who has arm problems or injuries. The
base of the phone holder is balanced, so there’s no need to worry about any sort of accidents.
This phone holder will make people who uses phone in a daily basis in their homes much more
convenient.

Aesthetics
Colour – Dark brown, woody color
Style - Modern
Shape - Clean and smooth lines, simple shapes (rectangles, semi circles and squares)
Target Audience
People of all ages. It’s not going to be hard to use and it’s not dangerous. Anybody who possesses a phone will be the target audience.
Maybe consumers who wants interesting designs that is quite unique will want this because there’s a passage where the sound will travel.
Function
Must hold single phone in an upright position.
Touch screen and all buttons must be accessible.
Charging cord must be able to be plugged in whilst the phone is in the holder.
Should be able to be easily dismantled and assembled (think flat-pack) for potential transport from office to home.
Criterion II
Production Constraints
Production will be limited to CAD/CAM, utilising laser cutting, some hand edge finishing will be possible.
Because everyone has a different phone size, lengths and audio source locations, we have to produce this with JIT (Just in time)
production method.
Size
The size of the phone holder is quite large, so it can be quite hard to transport with one of the phone holders.
Quantity
The design will initially be created as a one of piece in the form of a prototype, with the possibility of changes/improvements being made
to allow for larger scale batch production.
Conceptual modelling to test deisgn ideas to see if anything is against the specifications and gain feedbacks. This can develop the deisgn
further.

The semi circles are too close to

the edges, so we can readjust the
size of the semi circles to give the
phone holder more structural
integrity. Maybe a prototype can
be made and analyze if it will
sustain its shape with stability.

Idea 2
Helmet – style phone holder.
Aesthetics: Neutral colors
Bent materials
Target audience: It’s used at home for

babysitters, moms and dads who stays
home to look after their baby. Their
arms and hands would be busy taking
care of the baby, so why not use our
heads? Literally.
Function: stable phone holder. Must

have good grip of the phone so the
phone doesn’t fall out.
Idea 2
Production constraints: the process of making the product can be expensive. Bending material
needs high temperature, which means we need a good machinery.
Size: The size of the head of individual customers has to be acquired by the manufacturer to
adjust the product.
Quantity: If we have the right equipment we will be able to produce lots of quantity without
much error.
Idea 3
Phone cover holder
Color – Customers can choose. Ideally neutral colors.

Style: Convenient, not too modern
Shape: Like a hanger.
Target audience – For people who wants to watch videos,

music while in the bathroom. To not get your phone wet,
the product is trying to hold up the phone and hang it on
somewhere where there is not much water.
Function
Must hold single phone in an upright position. All features of
the phone must be accessible. Must cover the charging hole
for safety.

Style: Quite old fashioned
Shape: Rectangular prism with smooth edges.
Target audience: Not too stylish. Not a modern design.

It’s gender neutral and there is no age limit.
Function: Must hole the phone in an upright position. All

features of phones must be accessible.

Production constraints: Not much production constraints in this product.
Size: Size is not that huge, therefore its portable
Quantity: The amount produced can be easily increased and decreased.
