What is Teaching?
 Teaching is the process of attending to people’s needs,
experiences and feelings, and intervening so that they learn
particular things, and go beyond the given.
 Teaching is science as well as art . For effective teaching, teacher
has to follow some specific principles based on certain precise
knowledge.
 In this sense teaching is science. In order to teach effectively ,
teacher has to adopt varied circumstances by using different
techniques.
 Teaching has to develop or cultivate his or her own style of
teaching to become an efficient teacher.
Definition
 Burton : “Teaching method is the stimulation, guidance ,
direction and encouragement for learning.”
 Yokum : “Teaching is the means whereby the society trains
the young in specific or selected environment to adjust
themselves to the world in which they live as quickly as
possible.”
 Flander : “Teaching is an interaction process means
participation of both students and teachers and boh get
benefit by this. The interaction takes place for achieving
desired objectives.”
Objective Of Teaching
 Teaching aims at developing love for work .
 It also inculcates the desire to do work with
maximum efficiency upto which the individual
is capable of.
 It also develop the capacity of clear thinking.
 Teaching provides adequate opportunities for
participation.
 Expand students interest.
 Provide opportunities to pupils to apply
practically the knowledge and skills.
Principles of Teaching
 Principle of Motivation: The best teacher is one who inspire other
teachers and students.
 The human mind is like the parachute and it works when it opens . So
through teaching a teacher should unleash the talent of the student by
motivating them.
 Principle of activity : Teacher should also participate in various activities
along with students like discussion or conducting research
 Teacher must provide various types of activities such as assignment or
project to enhance creative skills of students
Characteristics
 Imparting knowledge in an efficient manner.
 Inculcates desirable values and proper attitude and habits of work in the
students .
 Create a genuinely attachment to work and desire to it as efficiently , honest
and thoroughly as possible.
 Provide opportunities for students to learn actively and apply practically the
knowledge that they have acquired in the classroom .
 Clear thinking and clear expression both in speech and writing has to take
place.
 A well thought out attempt should be made to adopt method of instruction in
order to benefit all categories of student.
Qualities of Good Teaching
 Good teaching recognize individual
difference.
 Good teaching is cause to learn.
 Good teaching provide opportunities for
activity.
 Good teaching involves guiding and learning.
 Good teaching is kindly and sympathetic .
 Good teaching reduces the distance between
teacher and learner.
 Good teaching is flexible.
 Good teaching provides the selective and
desirable information.
Quality of a Good Teacher
 Friendliness and Congeniality with students.
 A teacher must have a good personality.
 A good teacher must have deep knowledge and a great education.
 A good teacher must also be a good communicator.
 A good teacher is always a good listener.
 A good sense of humour is also important quality of the good teacher.
 A good teacher should be gentle , kind , chivalrous , and benevolent person.
Students should love him, they idolize him.
Conclusion
 Teaching is an interaction process. Interaction means
participation of both teacher and student and both get
benefit by this.
 The interaction take place for achieving desired objective.
 Teaching is an intimate contact between teacher and
student. In this process of education, teacher helps in
developing in the students’ personality by this intimate
contact.
