MAED -II CODE OF ETHICS FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS Pursuant to the provisions of paragraph (e), Article 11. of R.A. No.7836, otherwise known as the Philippines Personalization Act of 1994 and Paragraph (a), section 6, P.D. No.233, as amended, the Board for Professional Teachers hereby adopt the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers. PREAMBLE Teachers are duly licensed professionals who possess dignity and reputation with high moral values as well as technical and professional competence in the practice of their noble profession, they strictly adhere to, observe, and practice this set of ethical and moral principles, standards and values. ARTICLE I SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS Section 1. This code shall apply to ALL TEACHERS in schools in the Philippines.
Section 2. Covers ALL PUBLIC and PRIVATE school
TEACHERS in all educational institution. ARTICLE II THE TEACHER AND THE STATE Section 1. Teachers are under obligation to transmit cultural heritage to learners , elevate national morality, promote national pride, cultivate love of country, instill allegiance to the constitution. Section 2. Actively help carry out the declared policies of the state. ARTICLE II THE TEACHER AND THE STATE Section 3. Teacher should be physically, mentally and morally fit. Section 4. Teacher must fully commit and devote to duty. Section 5. Not promote & collect money for political, religious & partisan. ARTICLE II THE TEACHER AND THE STATE Section 6. Teacher shall vote and shall exercise all other constitutional rights. Section 7. Not coerce to follow any political course of action. Section 8. Enjoy academic freedom. ARTICLE III THE TEACHER AND THE COMMUNITY Section 1. Teacher is a facilitator of learning and of the development of the youth. Section 2. Shall actively participate in community movements of moral, social, educational, economic and civic betterment. Section 3. Merit reasonable social recognition. ARTICLE III THE TEACHER AND THE COMMUNITY Section 4. Understand local customs and traditions for sympathetic attitude. Section 5. Informed community about the school’s work, accomplishments, needs and problems. Section 6. Teacher is the intellectual leader in the community. ARTICLE III THE TEACHER AND THE COMMUNITY Section 7. Has harmonious relation with professionals, government and people.

worships. ARTICLE IV A TEACHER AND THE PROFESSION Section 1. Teacher insure that teaching is the noblest profession. Section 2. Shall upholds highest quality education, prepare for teaching. Section 3. Shall participate in the Continuing Professional Program (CPE). ARTICLE IV THE TEACHER AND THE PROFESSION Section 4. Seek supports from school, not make misrepresentations.

means for decent living. ARTICLE V THE TEACHERS AND THE PROFESSION Section 1. Show professional loyalty, mutual confidence and faith with one another. Section 2. Refrain claiming works not his own and give credits for the works of others. Section 3. Organize / Leave to successor such records and other data carry on the work. ARTICLE V THE TEACHERS AND THE PROFESSION Section 4. Keep confidential information, do not divulge documents or remove records. Section 5. Seek correctives for unprofessional, unethical conduct of associates Section 6. Submit to authorities criticisms against associates in writing. Section 7. Apply for vacant positions for which he is qualified. ARTICLE VI THE TEACHER AND THE HIGHER AUTHORITIES IN THE PROFESSION Section 1. Make an effort to understand and support the legitimate policies of the school. Section 2. Not make false accusations or charges against superiors. Section 3. Shall transact all official business through channels except when special conditions warrant a different procedure. ARTICLE VI THE TEACHER AND THE HIGHER AUTHORITIES IN THE PROFESSION Section 4. Has a right to seek redress against injustice to the administrations and to extent possible. Section 5. Has the right to invoke the principle that appointments, promotions and transfer of teachers. Section 6. A teacher who accepts a position assumes a contractual obligation to live up his contract. ARTICLE VII SCHOOL OFFICIALS, TEACHERS AND OTHER PERSONNEL Section 1. Show professional courtesy, helpfulness and sympathy towards teachers and other personnel. Section 2. Shall consider their cooperative responsibility to formulate policies. Section 3. Shall encourage and attend professional growth of all teachers. ARTICLE VII SCHOOL OFFICIALS, TEACHERS AND OTHER PERSONNEL Section 4. No school officials shall dismiss or recommend for dismissal except for a cause. Section 5. Shall ensure that public school teachers are employed in accordance with pertinent civil service rules. ARTICLE VII THE TEACHER AND THE LEARNERS Section 1. A teacher has a right and duty to determine the academic marks and the promotions of the learners in the subject or grades he handles. Section 2. Shall recognize that the interest and welfare of the learners are of first and foremost concerns. Section 3. No circumstance shall be prejudiced nor discriminated against by the learner. ARTICLE VII THE TEACHER AND THE LEARNERS Section 4. Shall not accept favors or gifts from learners. Section 5. Shall not accept any remuneration from tutorials other what is authorized for such service. Section 6. Evaluation shall be based in merit and quality of academic performance. ARTICLE VIII THE TEACHER AND THE LEARNERS Section 7. The teacher shall avoid scandal, gossip and preferential treatment of the learner. Section 8. Shall not inflict corporal punishment nor make deductions from their scholastic ratings. Section 9. Shall ensure that conditions contribute to the maximum development of the learners are adequate. ARTICLE IX THE TEACHER AND PARENTS Section 1. Shall establish and maintain cordial relations with parents. Section 2. Shall inform parents of the progress and deficiencies of the learner under him. Section 3. Shall hear parent’s complaints with sympathy and understanding. ARTICLE X THE TEACHER AND BUSINESS Section 1. A teacher has a right to engage in legitimate income generation. Section 2. Shall maintain a good reputation with respect to the financial matters such as in the settlement of his debts and loans in arranging satisfactorily his private financial affairs. Section 3. No teacher shall act as agent of or be financially interested in, any commercial venture which furnish and other school commodities in the purchase and disposal of which he can exercise official influence. ARTICLE XI THE TEACHER AS A PERSON Section 1. A teacher is a human being endowed with life for which it is the highest obligation to live with dignity at all times. Section 2. Shall inform parents of the progress and deficiencies of the learner under him. ARTICLE XI THE TEACHER AS A PERSON Section 3. Shall hear parent’s complaints with sympathy and understanding. Section 4. Shall always recognize the Almighty God as guide of his own destiny and of the destinies of men and nations. ARTICLE XII DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS Section 1. Any violation of any provision of this code shall be sufficient ground for the imposition against the erring teacher of the disciplinary action consisting of revocation of his Certificate of Registration and license as a Professional Teacher. ARTICLE XIII EFFECTIVITY Section 1. This code shall take effect upon approval by the Professional Regulation Commission and after sixty (60) days following it’s publication in the official Gazette or any newspaper of general circulation, whichever is earlier.
