• BEING LITERATE IN MEDIA AND INFORMATION WILL GRANT ONE THE OPPORTUNITIES TO CREATE,
SHARE, EXCHANGE INFORMATION, IDEAS, PICTURES AND VIDEOS THROUGH VIRTUAL
COMMUNITIES AND NETWORK.
• THERE ARE 4 ASPECTS OF POLITICAL PARTICIPATION, AND THESE ARE: VOTING, CAMPAIGN
ACTIVITY, CONTACTING OFFICIALS AND COLLECTIVE ACTIVITIES. AN INDIVIDUAL CAN
MAXIMIZE HIS/HER POLITICAL PARTICIPATION IN ALL OF THESE ASPECTS IF HE/SHE IS MEDIA AND
INFORMATION LITERATE.
• TODAY, EVEN FILIPINOS WHO ARE CURRENTLY RESIDING OVERSEAS CAN STILL PRACTICE THE
RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE IF THEY ARE AWARE OF ABSENTEE VOTING.
• AS FOR CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES, POLITICIANS HAVE BEEN USING TELEVISION AND RADIO ADS
EVEN BEFORE THE 21ST CENTURY TO SHOWCASE THEIR POLITICAL AGENDA, EXPRESS
VIEWPOINTS OF CURRENT AND TRENDING ISSUES, PERFORM POLITICAL DEBATES ON AIR AND
MOST OF ALL ENTICE THE VOTING PUBLIC TO CHOOSE THEM FOR A SPECIFIC OFFICE.

• MEDIA LITERACY. THIS SKILLS RESULTS TO A HIGHER LEVEL OF CONSUMER KNOWLEDGE AND
AWARENESS, WHICH CAN HELP THE GENERAL PUBLIC BE MORE AWARE OF THE ECONOMIC
ISSUES IN THERE COMMUNITIES.
• WE LIVE IN THE SOCIETY WHERE WE ARE SURROUNDED BY THE MEDIA AND BECAUSE OF THIS,
HAVING MEDIA LITERACY CAN HELP YOU MAKE SMARTER ECONOMIC DECISION. MEDIA MUST
BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY IN ORDER TO IMPROVE YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CURRENT
ECONOMIC STATUS. A MEDIA LITERATE PERSON WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE SMART ECONOMIC
DECISION BASE ON THE MEDIA AIRINGS OF THE LOCAL STATIONS.
• SOCIAL MEDIA IS BASED ON CONVERSATIONS AND A COMPANY THAT USES THESE SITES OFTEN
WILL IMPROVE THAT COMPANY’S POPULARITY AS MORE AND MORE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IT.
• INFORMATION LITERACY. THIS SKILL IS VITAL BECAUSE IT INCREASES AND MAXIMIZES
PEOPLE’S CONTRIBUTION TO A PROSPEROUS AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY.
INFORMATION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN THE ECONOMY AND COUNTRY’S THAT ARE
MOSTLY INFORMATION LITERATE ARE THE THAT CAN COPE AND COMPETE WELL IN THE
GLOBAL ECONOMY.
• IN THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERATE INDIVIDUAL’S MAY REFER TO
EITHER EDUCATORS OR LEARNERS WHO TEACH AND LEARN WITH MEDIA. MANY EDUCATORS ARE
ALREADY USING BLOGS, WIKIS, PODCAST, STREAMING VIDEOS AND OTHER POWERFUL WEB TOOLS
TO PROMOTE STUDENT LEARNING AN ENGAGEMENT. WEB-BASED LEARNING WILL PROBABLY NOT
REPLACE THE TRADITIONAL FACE-TO-FACE WAY OF LEARNING, HOWEVER, IT WILL BECOME A TOOL
TO ENHANCE THE CONVENTIONAL APPROACH TO LEARNING (RUIZ, MINTZER, & LEIPZIG, 2006).
MORE COHESIVE SOCIAL UNITS
• GROUP COHESIVENESS, GROUP COHESION, OR SOCIAL COHESION IS THE STRONG BOND THAT LINKS
EVERYONE IN THE GROUP AND IT KEEPS THEM TOGETHER NO MATTER HOW TOUGH THEIR OBSTACLES
MAY BE. COHESION ALSO MEANS STICKING TOGETHER (A GLUE FOR EXAMPLE IS A COHESIVE).
WORKING TOGETHER IN A GROUP WILL ONLY IMPROVE EVERYONE’S PERFORMANCE IN THE
GROUND AND HELP THEM DEVELOP NEWER SKILLS (SKILLSYOUNEED).
• A MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERATE INDIVIDUAL CAN HAVE ONE’S OWN EFFORT AS WELL AS
SEEING THE GROUP EFFORT. THE INDIVIDUAL CAN THEN ORGANIZED A GROUP WORKING TOGETHER
FOR A BETTER GO RATHER THAN AGAINST EACH OTHER. WITH THIS THE INDIVIDUAL WILL NOT BE “A
STONE WASTED IN THE FIELD” BUT INSTEAD HE/SHE BECOMES “A PART OF AN EDIFICE”.
• AT THE HEART OF ADAIR’S ACL IS THE ASPIRATION OF THE GROUP. THE THREE AREAS TO CONSIDER
ARE:
• INFORMATION IS CRUCIAL IN ANY DISASTER. THE MORE INFORMATION THAT IS SPREAD BY THE MEDIA
