Introduction
the problem and its background

• All student have learning style that explain how they best retain
and process information. Everyone uses a combination of Learning
styles but most have a preference. Some prefer visual which they
process information using medium such as charts and graphs and
needs images to explain. Another one is the auditory, students learn
best when information is spoken, students prefer lectures and
discussions. And lastly kinesthetic, they tend to learn best through
tactic process information by recreating and practicing. Student who
prefer this mode are connected to their reality.

As a result, somebody in class almost always gets left behind. In order to


minimize students’ failure to learn, teachers must develop curriculum that
cater to all three physiological learning styles and addresses the learning
needs to auditory, visual and kinesthetic.

The idea of individualized learning styles became popular in the 1970s,


and has greatly influenced education despite the criticism that the idea
has received from some researchers. Learning process has been important
aspects of human life. In the last five dacades, the topic of learning style
has been of considerable interest in the administrative and academic
community. Different learning style for their learning.

Learning styles are subject area sensitive, that a majority of the


students perceive different discipline require different learning
strategies and that they are able to adapt or style-flex to meet the
requirements of the learning task. Many students may have some
intuition regarding how they learn, many may simply not be
consciously aware of their learning preferences in general, let alone
learning in different disciplines.
In this journal, it shows that many students have different learning
styles in acquiring different learning task that was given by their
teachers. There are also students who are not aware how they learn
or many students do not know what is their learning preference in
common. Let them explore and know his/her learning styles because
it helps the students to perform well or get highest scores in exams or
quizzes. Understanding the different learning styles of students can
also help the teachers not only the students because they can
implement better strategies in teaching and for the students they
can used better strategies in studying.

Hackman (1983) conducted an investigation to identify the learning


styles differences between gifted and non-gifted high school
students. The result indicated that gifted high school students
scored higher than non-gifted high school students on cognitive
characteristics. The elements that were preferred by gifted high
school students were authority figure present, visual, kinesthetic,
and late.

•Research design

A descriptive design was used in this study to determine the


relationship of the student reading habit to their vocabulary
knowledge and reading comprehension of the high school students of
Tarlac Christian College. It covers the rationales and research
design.
