Automatic Traffic Lights: Presented by:D.Akshay Kumar HT NO:17B45A0202

This document describes an automatic traffic light system. It discusses the components used in the circuit diagram, including resistors, capacitors, IC555 timer, transistor, dim lights, diode, battery, circuit board, and voltage regulator. It explains how the system works using a 4017 counter IC and 555 timer to control when the red, yellow, and green lights glow based on traffic density detected by surveillance cameras. The system aims to efficiently control traffic flow and prevent jams.

AUTOMATIC TRAFFIC LIGHTS

Presented by:D.Akshay kumar

HT NO:17B45A0202
ABSTRACT
 The traffic signals are also know as signal lig
hts, lamps.
 The traffic signals are first installed in 1868 i

n London.
 Now used almost every city of world.
 Traffic lights alternate the right way accordin

g to road users by displaying lights of colors

(Red, Yellow, Green).
INTRODUCTION
 Traffic signals are one of the most effective a
nd flexible active control of traffic and widely
used in several cites world wide.
 The conflicts arising from movements of traffi

c in different direction is addressed by time s

haring principle.
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM
Components:
1. Resistors. (100k,10k)
2. Capacitors. (1000mF,470mF,0.1mF)
3. IC555 timer.
4. Transistor.
5. Dim lights. (15W,230V)
6. Diode.
7. Battery.
8. Circuit Board.
9. Connecting wires.
10.Voltage regulator 7805.
PROCEDURE:
 The traffics obtained from surveillance camer
a though continuous video processing.
 To calculate the density ,an image from the c

amera is used to calculate the number of vehi

cles in each lane.
Working Concept:
The traffic lights, main IC is 4017 counter
IC which is used to glow the red, yellow, gr
een. 555 timer acts a pulse generator. Timi
ng of glow of certain lights totally depends
upon the 555 timers.
Advantages
Provisions for pedestrians to cross the street saf
ely.
 Potential reduction of accidents.
 Possible reduction in delay.
Disadvantages:
 Large
stop time delay.
 Complex signals design problem.
FUTURE SCOPE
 Automatic generation of e-Challan
 Real time traffic information update on tr

affic department website

 Detection of other emergency vehicles
Conclusion
Thus from above theory we can conclude that using
the method of density based control of traffic lights we
can save a considerable amount of time and also we ca
n prevent excessive traffic jams thus leading to smooth
traffic flow.
