Maglev Train

The document discusses the history and technology of maglev trains. It explains that the first magnetic train model was developed in the 1930s and the first public maglev train was built in 1959 in England. Currently, Japan operates maglev trains at speeds up to 603 km/hr using electromagnetic suspension technology. Maglev trains levitate and propel using magnetic fields without friction, but require new infrastructure and control systems to operate safely at high speeds.

HISTORY OF MAGLEV TRAINS

 First model of magnetic train was devloped by alfred
zehden.
 In 1934 herman kemper become success in the
experiment of magnetic levitation.
 In 1959 1st magnetic train for public transport build
in england.
PERSENT MAGLEV TRAIN

 Japan is operating independently developed maglev train since 1969.

 Highest recorded maglev speed is 603 km/hr achieved in japan in

2015.
 China started maglev train in 2004 and planning to extend its track to
more 200km.
MAGLEV:THE PRINCIPLE

 A method of supporting and transporting objects
based on physical property of magnetism.
 Alternative way of travelling vechile without
friction using magnetic levitation.
 Principle of magnetic suspension is used to suspend
vechile.
TECHNOLOGY IN MAGLEV TRAINS

 Maglev uses any of two type of technology for its working
a) EMS b)EDS
 EMS(electromagnetic suspension)-Train Levitates above a
steel rail while electromagnet attached to the train are
oriented toward rail from below.

 EDS(electrodynamic suspension)-Both the guideway
and the train exert a magnetic field and train
levitated by repulsive and attractive force.
WORKING OF MAGLEV TRAIN

 MAGLEV TRACK- Magnetized coil runs along the track which repels the
large magnet on the undercarriage
 PROPULSION SYSTEM- Longstator linear motor is used for both
propulsion and braking
 OPERATION CONTROL SYSTEM-Controls the operation and
guarantees the safety of maglev system.
ADVANTAGE OF MAGLEV

 FASTEST TRIP-It is the fastest way of transportation
after air.
 EFFICIENCY-Experience no rolling resistance, leaving
only air resistance and electromagnetic drag.
 Less polluting and petroleum independence transport
system.
 Provides an alternative to air transport.
DISADVANTAGE OF MAGLEV TRAINS

 HIGH INITIAL COST-Require all new infrastruture for
their entire route.
 A very strong magnetic field is required to levitate a
massive train.
 CONTROL SYSTEM-Needs very fast responding control
system to maintain a stable height above the track.
 Any small fault in system can result in a big accidents.
FUTURE EXPANSION

 Hoped to be used to transport system on the greater extent
all across the world.
 Some company like toshiba elevator and building system
have developed the 1st elevator control by magnetic
levitation.
 Future technology can get the maglev train to operate at a
very high speed.
CONCLUSION

 Maglev trains are going to be the new way of
transportation.
 Competiting planes with speed ,ship with efficiency,
traditional trains with safety it seems like a promising
means of transport.
 System encourages land conservation especially useful
where land is costly on available.
