    GREEK SCULPTURE ?
     The sculpture of ancient Greece from 800 to 300 BCE early
    inspiration from Egyptian and Near Eastern monumental art , and over
    centuries evolved into uniquely Greek vision of the art form .Greek
    artists would reach a peak of artistic excellence which captured the
    human form in a way never before seen in which was much copied.
    Greek sculptors were particularly concerned with proportion , poise
    and the idealized perfection of the human body , and their figures in
    stone and bronze have become some of the most recognizable pieces
    of art ever produced by any civilization.
    INFLUENCES AND EVOLUTION

    From the 8th century BCE,ARCHAIC Greece saw a rise in the production
    of small solid figures in clay ,ivory ,and bronze. No doubt , wood too was a
    commonly used medium but its susceptibility to erosion has meant few
    example have survive . Bronze figures , human heads and heads and ,in
    particular, griffins were used as attachments to bronze vessels such as
    cauldrons .In style , the human figures resembol in contemporary
    Geometric POTT ERY designs having elongated limbs and a triangular
    torso. Animal figures were also produced in large numbers, especially the
    horse and many have been found across Greece at sanctuary sites such as
    OLYMPIA and DELPHI.
    THE SIX GREEK SCULPTURES EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW

    1.The Moschophoros, c 570 BCE which means “the calf-


    bearer” was found in fragments naked with a smiling face.
    2.The Artemision Bronze thought to be either Poseidon or
    Zeus. It was found by fishermen off the coast of in 1928. The
    figure is more than 2m in height. There are still debates over the
    subject off this sculpture because its missing thunderbolt that it
    is Zeus, while its missing trident also rules out the possibility
    that it is Poseidon.
    3. The Hermes of Praxiteles represents Hermes while
    carrying another popular character in GREEK mythology
    , the infant Dionysus. The statue was made from Parian
    marble and is believed by historians to have been built by
    the ancient Greeks during 330 BC. It is known today as
    one of the most original masterpieces of the great Greek
    sculptor Praxiteles. The face and the torso of Hermes are
    striking for their highly polished.
