    Ancient Egyptian art developed over several periods from around 3100 BC to 332 BC. During the Old Kingdom, pharaohs were seen as god-like and pyramids were constructed as royal tombs. The Middle Kingdom was characterized by the pharaoh taking the role of high priest. The New Kingdom saw expanded rule and a change in religion until Egypt was conquered in 332 BC. Architecture included pyramids, temples, and sculpture primarily portrayed rulers to identify tombs if raided. Relief sculpture and painting followed rules of distortion and showing all parts of figures.
