QUALIFICATION:

 General: Pre – University course or 10 + 2 or


equivalent
 General Nursing & Midwifery recognized by Indian
Nursing Council according to INC norms.
 B.Sc Nursing recognized by Indian Nursing Council
/ Basic B. Sc Nursing from a recognized University
according to INC norms / Certificate in Public
Health Nursing from any recognized institution.
 Registration: Registration with the State Nursing
Council / INC.
 Many employers require a bachelor's degree, and

 fluency in languages that are commonly spoken in


the community is necessary.
 Responsible for the health of members of the
community who may not be cared for by
traditional medical institutions.
 uninsured, migrant workers and immigrants.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
 Area of work is the entire district.
 She is attached to District Health Office.
 directly responsible to District Health Officer
(DHO)and has delegated responsibility for all
nursing personnel in the District public health
field.
 In technical matters, she is guided by the Deputy /
Assistant Director of Health Services (Nursing) at
Directorate level.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Administrative

 She is responsible for the implementation of


policies and programmes relating to nursing &
midwifery services in the district.
 Will make recommendations to the DHO
regarding the selection, appointment, leave,
transfers, further education and possible
promotion of nursing staff.
Administrative

 Responsible for intending of supplies and


equipment for her section, and also taking part in
budgetary planning.
 Will evaluate all reports from nursing staff in
district, sent to DHO office.
 Will submit monthly and annual reports on the
work done by her to the DHO.
Supervisory

 She will aim to promote harmony & efficiency


within the health team to improve the quality of
work.
Educational

She will initiate & assist with


 In – service educational programmes
 Orientation training programmes
 Dais’ training programmes
 Health worker (female) training programmes
 Training student nurses in rural field health
centers.
General - Duties and functions

 To organize, direct & develop all the community


health nursing & midwifery services in the
district.
 Will take part in all relevant discussions of health
services in the district.
 Will interpret the needs of the nursing &
midwifery services to the DHO and Zilla Parishad
Duties and functions

 To help in the organization of maternal and child


health programme

 implementation of - immunization programme,


training of traditional birth attendants,
prophylaxis against nutritional deficiency disease
etc.

through the Lady Health Visitors, ANM by
providing them with talking points and printing
materials produced by various agencies

 To help in developing school health programme


in district

 To ensure regular supply of equipments, records,


registers, drugs, vaccines necessary for the MCH
work in the PHC`s and sub centers by assisting
the store keeper in procuring and distributing the
supplies

 To ensure the maintenance of prescribed records


and submission of periodical progress of MCH
/FP Nutritional work activities

 To help the statistical officer in the District


Family Welfare Bureau in compiling the periodic
progress report of the MCH activities

 To investigate into the complaints against female


para medical personnel in the district and submit
reports to the DMO

 To provide for the continuing education of the


female MCH/FP/functionaries in the district
through short in-service educational courses

 To tour for the minimum period of 15 days in a


month and visit the PHC`s, subcenters, village
dias, balawadi mahila mandals etc according to
the advancaed programme dully approved by the
Medical Officer
Duties and functions

 To co-operate MCH/FP activities undertaken


through the voluntary health organizations in the
district and provide inputs to the extent possible
to the mothers and children organized in the
balawadi, Mahila mandals,supplementary feeding
centers.
Duties and functions

 To work with the functionaries of the other


government departments like social welfare, rural
development and education engaged in
progammes for woman and children
 Instructs individuals and families in health
education and disease prevention in community
health agency:

 Visits homes to determine patient and family


needs, develops plan to meet needs, and provides
nursing services.
 Instructs family in care and rehabilitation of
patient, and in maintenance of health and
prevention of disease for family members.

 Gives treatments to patient following physician's


instructions.
 Assists community members and health field
personnel to assess, plan for, and provide needed
health and related services.

 Refers patients with social and emotional


problems to other community agencies for
assistance.
 Teaches home nursing, maternal and child care,
and other subjects related to individual and
community welfare.

 Participates in programs to safeguard health of


children, including child health conferences,
school health, group instruction for parents, and
immunization programs.
 Assists in preparation of special studies and in
research programs.

 Directs treatment of patient by NURSE,


LICENSED PRACTICAL and
HOME ATTENDANT.
 Cooperates with families, community agencies,
and medical personnel to arrange for convalescent
and rehabilitative care of sick or injured persons.

 May specialize in one phase of community health


nursing, such as clinical pediatrics or tuberculosis.
