Description of Piranha
Fish
The Piranha Fish (also known as the
‘caribe’ in Venezuela) is a ferocious,
schooling, fresh-water fish. It is native to
warm rainforest lowland streams and
lakes in South America – the Amazon
basin, in the Orinoco River and east of the
Andes Mountains. Piranha Fish have
been introduced to other places, including
Northern Brazil, Hawaii, parts of the
Central and North America.

There are many species of piranha fish.

Piranhas are opportunistic carnivores (flesh-eaters).
They eat aquatic and land animals that are in the water. Some
of their prey includes fish, mollusks, crustaceans, insects,
birds, lizards, amphibians, rodents and carrion (carcasses).
Piranhas are diurnal (most active during the day).

Piranhas generally eat smaller fish. Larger fish and small

mammals may be attacked if there is a school of piranhas.

Foraging methods vary in the different life stages of

Piranhas. During the day, smaller fish typically search for food
whilst at dawn, late afternoon and early evening the larger
fish search for food.

Piranha groups feed communally. Feeding frenzies will be

triggered when there is a shortage of food or blood in the
water.
Bawal Difference With Piranha

at first a lot of people are confused about the difference bawal with piranha fish. basically the physical
characteristics of both fish almost have a charateristic which is almost similar. The following is piranha difference
with pomfret fish:

 > piranha fish whose life is more fun in groups, at the time of piranha eat their prey, usually destroying and
tearing apart prey together. whereas bawal hunts individually and not in groups

 piranha have one characteristic that rarely has other fish species that is its quiet as a statue but to react
immediately when there is prey nearby.

 Dental piranha fish consist entirely of pointed teeth rather than large bawal teeth but not
sharp canines

The lower jaw of the piranha is larger
and longer than the upper jaw. In
contrast to bawal whose lower jaw size is
small and the size is almost the same as the
upper jaw.

bawal is a type of carnivore but is
omnivorous because it can also eat
vegetation other than meat. While piranhas
are carnivorous types only and are known to
be ferocious predators.
