Introduction According to Dreher, et al, (2016), Healthy People 2020 is an initiative of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that is set out through various health objectives for the United States to achieve over a period of time with the sole purpose to help groups and stakeholders in the health sector to develop programs to improve health of all its citizens. Definition of the goal In regards to the goal on global health, Smith, (2012), quotes its definition from the Healthy People 2020 website “To improve public health and strengthen U.S. national security through global disease detection, response, prevention, and control strategies.” Describe why this goal is important The goal on global health is important in this initiative because the health of the U.S. population can be affected by public health threats or events across the globe. To control and avert such emerging diseases which threaten public health is the reason as to why this goal is important (Smith, 2012). Describe How this goal affect culture, age groups or religious groups etc Global health goals are vast and are set out to affect cultural groups, religious groups and different age groups around us in both positive and negative ways. It affects a cultures perceptions of health, illness and death, beliefs about causes of disease, approaches to health promotion, how illness and pain are experienced and expressed, where patients seek help, and the types of treatment patients prefer.
