Construction of Turbo Generator: G.Raviteja 16VD1A0230

This document summarizes the construction of a turbo generator. It describes the key parts of the stator and rotor, including the stator frame, core, winding, and end cover and the rotor body, winding, and fan. It explains that the stator is the stationary outer part that houses the rotating rotor. It also provides an overview of the assembly process, where the rotor is inserted into the stator using a crane, and discusses testing to improve knowledge of turbo generator functioning.

INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION TO TURBO GENERATOR:

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION:
PARTS OF TURBO GENERATOR

Stator is the stationary, outer

Rotor is the rotating part of
part of generator which is
the generator.
used for housing the rotor.
TURBO GENERATOR :- STATOR PARTS

• Stator frame
• Stator core
• Stator winding
Stator frame
• Stator end cover Stator core

• Bushings
• Generator
terminal box
Bushings Stator winding
STATOR FRAME
• Rigid fabricated cylindrical
frame and is the heaviest
section in the generator.

• The frame is made up of a

non magnetic material to
prevent the eddy current
losses.
STATOR CORE
• The stator core is made from
the insulated electrical sheet
lamination to minimize eddy
current losses.

• Support the stator winding.

Stamping
STATOR WINDING
• The stator winding of
Turbo Generator is three
phase two layer lap
winding .

• Each stator slot

accommodates two
stator bars.

Basket Rings
STATOR END COVER

• The ends of the stator

frame are closed by
pressure containing end
shields.

• The end covers are made

up of non-magnetic
material (Aluminum) to
reduce eddy current
losses.
BUSHINGS
• The beginning and ends
of the three phase
windings are brought out
from the stator frame
through bushings, which
provides for high
voltage insulation.

• The bushings are bolted to

the stator frame at the
exciter end.
ROTOR
• Rotating part of turbo
generator.

• Rotor of cylindrical type

used in turbo generator.

• 2-pole ,3000rpm,50Hz
ROTOR PARTS

• Rotor Body
• Rotor Winding
• Rotor slot wedge
• Retaining Ring winding Rotor body
• Rotor Fan

Retaining ring
Rotor Fan
ROTOR BODY
• The raw material for rotor
is the raw rotor shaft with
just a basic cylindrical
shape.

• Weight approx. 75 tonnes.

ROTOR WINDING
• It is a two pole rotor.

• Rotor winding is also

known as field winding
which is wound in
longitudinal slots in rotor.
ROTOR FAN

• The cooling air in

generator is circulated by
axial fans located on the
rotor shaft.
RETAINING RING
• To protect end winding of
rotor from flying out from
the rotor due to centrifugal
forces rotor retaining ring
is used.

• To ensure low contact

resistance retaining rings
are coated with nickel,
aluminum, silver.
Rotor inserted in the Stator:
After the winding of the rotor it is inserted
inside the stator with the help of crane.

ASSEMBLY OF TURBO GENERATOR
After the manufacturing of both stator and rotor ,
these are assembled together at the assembly bed.
RESULT
In this presentation we know about the turbo generator
parts ,working and principle.
CONCLUSION
This presentation helped us in improving our
knowledge regarding to Turbo Generator .
FUTURE SCOPE
• A technology research and investigations division of
BHEL is currently investigating the technical and
logistical merit of performing offline quadratic-rate
partial discharge tests on the Stator winding
insulation of its hydro and turbo generators
