(Emphasis on action than on thought. It is made
instrument to find suitable means for action)
Pragmatism
Pragmatism is an American philosophy from
the early 20th century. According to
Pragmatism, the truth or meaning of an idea or
a proposition lies in its observable practical
consequences rather than anything
metaphysical. It can be summarized by the
phrase “whatever works, is likely true”
because reality changes, “whatever works” will
also change – thus, truth must also be
changeable and no one can claim to possess
any final or ultimate truth.
Things are constantly changing. It is based on
the view that reality is what you experience. It
believes that truth is what works right now and
that goodness comes from group decisions

As the result, schools exist to discover and

expand the society we live in. Students study
social experiences and solve problems.
Pragmatism
A philosophical position which considers
that values have no prior existence, they
are created by a process of successful
experimentation and emerged as problems
were solved

Pragmatism vs. Idealism

Idealism – knowledge or idea leads to practice

Pragmatism – ideas are constricted from experience
Pragmatism vs. Realism

considered hard – it should be hard to all)
In Pragmatism, If hard to one – should
experimentally want to improve
