When effort required by the

driver for turning the Steering
Wheel is fully or partially
shared by other form of energy,
the system is called as Power
Steering.

The system is the simplest and the
most economical one. The system uses
a fixed displacement pump. In neutral,
pump and tank are connected.
Its volumetric flow rate is variable as a
function of pump speed.

pressure constant-flow variable
A pump with variable volumetric flow
rate operates at a regulated constant
pressure. In neutral position, the
pump reduces its delivery volume to
the rate of leakage loss.
The pump adjusts its flow volume as
required by the load.

Non-Load Reaction

The steering unit blocks the

cylinder ports in the neutral,
holding the axle position
whenever the operator
releases the steering wheel.
Hence no self centering.

Load Reaction

The cylinder ports are connected

internally with the pump in the
unit. Hence the forces on the
front axle turn the steering wheel
to its approximate original
position.
Hence self centering.

 Types of Hydraulic Power
Steering.
Power Assisted Steering
• Hydraulic power is used by the “Torque
Generator” to ease the efforts of the
operator while steering. The system
also consist of regular manual steering
components like Steering gear box,
steering linkages etc.
• Steering Wheel & Front Wheel is
connected mechanically. Steering
Wheel-steering box-drop arm-drag link
-steering lever-track rod-Front Wheel.

• The steering control system is fully

fluid linked. That means there is no
mechanical connection between the
steering unit, the pump and the
steering cylinders.
• Steering Wheel & Front Wheel is
connected by hoses only. Steering
Wheel-HSU-power cylinder-Front
Wheel.

 The power steering system is delicate
and susceptible to dirt and water.
Ensure that the the cylinder, the pipes
are protected from dust and water.
 Every week check whether there is any
leakage from any pipe joint. If there is
a leakage, tighten the joint gently. Do
not over tighten. If leakage persists,
contact EICHER dealer.
 If the oil is below the minimum level in
the reservoir, top-up with the EICHER
RAKSHAK EP-80 oil only.

 Use genuine EICHER RAKSHAK EP-80
Gear oil from the EICHER dealer,
available in the packed condition.
 If you have to buy the steering oil from
the market, ensure that you are buying
only the recommended oil, as
mentioned in operator’s manual.
 Ensure that the heavy lump of dirt or
mud is not accumulated on the power
steering cylinder piston rods.
 Once in the week grease the
Connecting tie rod ball joints.

 Customer DONT’S !
 Do not over tight the pipe connections, as it
will damage the ferrule for the sealing.
 In any circumstances, do not open any pipe
connections in the field or in any dirty area.
 The tractor should not be operated when
the steering wheels are turned to the
extreme left or right. In such cases, the
relief valve in the system will keep on
blowing. Hussssss……………... sound
indicates that the relief valve is blowing. If
you operate in this condition continuously,
the system will get overheated and get
damaged.

 Do not over tight the pipe connections,
as it will damage the ferrule for the
sealing.
 Do not operate the power steering
when the oil level is below the
minimum level in the reservoir.
 Do not try to forcibly turn the steering
wheel in the locked condition at the
extreme left or right condition.
 Do not run the tractor if the power
steering system is damaged . In this
condition, contact the nearest EICHER
dealer.

response time is totally different
in Power Steering unit compared
to Manual Steering. Hence
sufficient practice & feel of the
tractor with Power Steering is
necessary before actual driving.

 The relief valve in the system will
open at extreme left or extreme
right position. The opening of
relief valve follows with
Hussss.…sound. This is normal,
but in between if it comes pl

center.
