    • Essence of fat pride movement is to raise
    awareness that being fat is okay. Basically it is
    about the glorification of being fat. This is
    something that we do not want here because
    at the same time we’re promoting unhealthy
    lifestyle and obesity. Because when we glorify,
    at the same time we will promote the
    unhealthy lifestyle that usually fat people
    have.

    • We do realize that there is discrimination happen
    toward fat people and therefore this movement
    become their eco-chamber. But the thing with eco-
    chamber, it will create some sort of protection for its
    members. At some point it’s good because the fat
    people will get people that will support them when
    everyone else discriminate them. But the prolonging
    support will also shift the mind of the fat people, they
    will become too comfortable with being fat even at the
    risk of their health, even at the risk that they cannot be
    productive, etc which will sharpen the social narrative
    that “fat people are lazy” and create a bigger
    discrimination

    • The message of the movement will be
    misunderstood and misinterpreted. This
    movement is all about ‘body positivity’ and ‘every
    shapes are beautiful’ but this movement only
    focus on the ‘extra size’ which oftentimes in the
    process of promoting this message they will
    victimize themselves and blame skinny people for
    being too skinny (which contradict with the
    purpose of the movement) therefore we regret
    the movement.

    • The thing with social movement, they always want to
    engage with people, they want to inform people about
    something.
    • In the SQ we see that discrimination happen toward fat
    people, such as; in the workplace, public place, people
    do fat shaming everywhere because we were told that
    being fat is something that you can’t be, we were told
    that being skinny is the only way to go (advertisement,
    public display, entertainment)
    • Therefore this movement exists to fight for the right of
    fat people to be treated the same way (equally) and it
    limits fat people to actualize themselves because of the
    discrimination that happen toward them

    • Why we should support this fat-pride
    movement?

    In the SQ, people do fat shaming, people shame


    fat people for being fat. And there are a lot of
    cases in which people kill themselves because of
    this fat shaming the potrayal of “fat” in SQ is
    really ridiculous and it’s making fat people hate
    themselves. Because they feel unworthy, they’ve
    been oppressed and discriminated for too long
    that no one speaks for them (unlike feminist and
    LGBT, they have large basis of supporter)

    • Contradicting Value

    What is the value that should be upheld by the


    society ? Is that “every shapes are beautiful” but
    in reality it’s only those whose size 0-5 are
    considered beautiful. Exactly because there is
    contradicting value happen in the society
    therefore this movement happen to change the
    value that exists right now. To change the
    narrative about “beauty standard” that people
    have been brainwashed that size 0-5 are the only
    thing that’s considered beautiful.

    • Why fat pride movement will be effective?

    The movement can be a positive reinforcement in


    which these fat people will become the supporter base
    of fat people to choose what they want to be. It will
    not only be focused on “being fat is okay” but the
    agenda of this movement is also about “loving
    yourself” in which the whole idea about promoting
    unhealthy lifestyle that’s coming from government side
    will be dismissed because in this movement, they will
    also consider that loving yourself is not only about
    loving your current size but also means that you have
    to take care of your body and health.
