BRIEF SUMMARY
BEFORE 1969 The internet is now over four decades.

Back in February 7, 1958, Neil McElroy, a secretary of the

Department of Defense (DoD) signed the Department of
defense directive 5105.15. This launched the Advance
Research Projects Agency (ARPA) and now known as
(DARPA). The creation of the agency is an important moment
in Science history because it led to the creation of the
internet we recognize today..

In the 1950’s, the cold war was in full swing. The Soviet
Union’s Sputnik 1, launched in 1957 and destroying the US
long-distance communication network.

ARPA relied only on telephone wires that were susceptible.

Until 1962, J.C.R. Licklider, a scientist from ARPA and MIT
suggested to connect computers to keep communication
active that could withstand unforeseen events like war.
