The history of computers began around 4000 BC with the invention of the abacus in China, which allowed for basic mathematical calculations. In the 17th century, early mechanical calculators like the Pascaline and Leibniz calculator improved on the abacus by automating addition and subtraction, and later multiplication. Charles Babbage then invented the Difference Engine in the 1800s, one of the first general purpose computers. Herman Hollerith's tabulating machine in 1884 helped process census data using punched cards. The Harvard Mark I in 1944 was one of the first fully electronic general purpose computers.

The history of
computers What is a computer? The Abacus
About 4000 ago, the Chinese invented the ABACUS.
With his help, the most elementary mathematical operations could be performed being easy to manipulate. The abacus was invaluable to merchants and accountants. The Antikythera
Themechanism displays the Sun
and Moon, but also the five planets visible with naked eye on Earth: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn The Pascaline
Designed and built by french mathematician Blaise Pascal in 1642. The
Pascaline made additions and subtractions. The Leibniz calculator
In1673 Gottfried Leibniz, a german mathematician and philosopher
enchanced the Pascaline by creating a device that could also multiply. Leibniz was a biggest supporter of the binary numerical system. The Analytical Engine Charles Babbage, a british mathematician professor invented the Difference engine. The machine had the capacity to perform calculation and print the results. The Hollerith tabulating machine In 1884 Herman Hollerith invented a drilling and counted machine with the help of which he managed to systematize the medical files an de 1890 census data. The machine was a punch card reader and had the capacity to store and process data. Harvard Mark I By 1944, Aiken Howard in collaboration with IBM, developed the first fully functional computer. This computer was huge and was largely mechanical. Atanasoff-Berry (ABC) The first special electronic computer was made by John Vincent Atanasoff, making a prototype in 1939, along with his assistant Clifford Berry.
