Mobile Processors: A Presentation By-Akash Tyagi Bca 2 Year

A mobile processor contains several key components, including the CPU, GPU, camera ISP, audio/video processor, and radio/modem. The system on a chip (SoC) integrates all these components onto a single chip. Important factors for comparing mobile processors are their architecture, manufacturing technology, number of cores, and clock frequency. Advances in processor technology and design are needed to support future mobile devices and next-generation mobile communication standards.

Conclusion
Processor
A little chip is the heart of a device. Also referred to
as the “microprocessor”. The processor does all
the computations such as adding, subtracting,
multiplying, and dividing.
OR
A processor is the logic circuitry that responds to
and processes the basic instructions that drive a
computer. The four primary functions of a
processor are fetch, decode, execute and write
back.

Buses
GPU(Graphics Processing Unit)
• Used for graphics related processing.
• Video games, editing software work smoothly
with it.
• Also used for video playing and all display
work.
• NVIDIA, Qualcomm are famous brands that
manufacture GPU.
Camera ISP(Image Signal Processor)

• Camera ISP is integrated within processor.

• Used for better camera performance.
• Processes like AI, 4K, Ultra-HDR, Image
stabilization done by ISP.
• Portrait mode with single camera sensor work
with ISP.
Audio & Video
• Also Known as DSP(Digital Signal Processor).
• Work with GPU to make better audio & video
output.
• Dolby Atmos, 3D viewing and HDR output are
basic support of this unit.
• Play a major role in image processing.
Radio & 3G/4G Modem
• Radio used for sending and receiving voice
connections.
• Modem enables our digital internet signals.
• LTE(Long Term Evolution) is latest technology
used in smart phones.
• Testing of 5G modem is already started.
SoC(System On a Chip)
System on a Chip, an integrated circuit that
combines all the components of a processor
into a single chip. Think of your CPU, graphic
card, memory controller and other
components all rolled into a single chip, that’s
essentially an SoC.
• The SoC technology mainly
found only in moblie processors.

Number of Cores

Frequency(GHz)
Architecture
• It is the basic design of a mobile processor.
• Usually a map of the processor.
• ARM(Advanced RISC Machines) design
architecture for major processor brands.
• Latest architecture by ARM
is Armv8.3(Iphone XS).
Technology
• Technology refers to the nm(nanometer)
technology used in a mobile processor.
• There are usually 20 nm, 16 nm, 14nm, 10nm
processors technology in common use.
• Apple become the worlds first company who launch
a mobile processor(A12 Bionic Chip) with 7 nm
technology.
Number of Cores
• Cores are the processing unit which reads the
instruction.
• Multi cores are used for parallel computing.
• There are mainly dual-core, quad- core and
octa-core processors.
Frequency(GHz)
• Also known as clock speed or clock rate.
• 1 MHz = 1 Million Hz
• 1 GHz = 1 Billon Hz
• Higher the frequency faster the processor.
• It is the frequency of switching of circuits in 1
second.
CONCLUSION
The recent developments in mobile communication
technology show the importance of moblie phone
processors in the smart phones. All the modern
processors are basically ARM-based.
To support next-generation mobile devices, processor
architecture has to be designed considering new
approaches. Still, the development in mobile
processors is needed.
