Bulb Changing Without Ladder: Department of Mechanical Engineering

This document describes a student project to develop a device for safely changing light bulbs without needing a ladder. The device uses a telescoping pole with different attachments to allow changing bulbs in hard to reach places. It aims to provide safety against falls, electric shocks, and damage while changing bulbs quickly. The working principle involves extending the pole and screwing on an attachment matched to the bulb type. Turning the pole then allows loosening and tightening the bulb. The simple construction uses a steel pole, spring, adjustable grip and suction grip. The conclusions are that it immediately changes bulbs without contact risks while saving time.

Bulb changing without

ladder
Under Guidance of Presented by
Students Involved

Abstract
 Removing the old bulb will be easy. Mounting the new one is
slightly more difficult. Sometimes, replacing those bulbs can be
tricky, particularly in high ceilings where those cheap, round
plastic or porcelain lamp holders are used. If you have got a
chair or ladder handy than its less ricky. But if you are replacing
a bulb high above some stairs or outside on the balcony of your
four-story apartment complex, that will be so risky. Our project
can overcome all this problem.
Introduction

A light bulb change is something almost everyone

will have done in his or her lifetime. Although
the actual task of changing a bulb can be quick,
it’s important to understand how to identify
potential hazards and how to mitigate them.
Our project provides general safety to change
alight bulb safely.
Introduction

Our project applies to bulb changing in complex

environments with a safety against variety of
hazards such as fall and electric shock. This
project would not apply wet condition to
changing a lightbulb in a desk or floor lamp.
OBJECTIVE

 Change the bulb without ladder

 Provide safety against shock
 Provide safety against fall
 Changing bulb without damage
 Save Time
WORKING PRINCIPLE

 Our project is having foot telescoping pole and several adapters to

change most types of light bulbs in recessed lights.
 Always turn off electrical power to the bulb you are changing. Allow
time for bulb to cool. Select the appropriate attachment and screw
onto the threaded end of the extension pole. Carefully hand-
tighten the thumb-screw in the base of the attachment.
 Extend the pole and tighten each section as shown on the diagram
on the pole. It is important to fully tighten each section so the pole
doesn’t loosen when being turned
WORKING PRINCIPLE

 For standard bulbs, push directly on the bulb. Turn the

pole counterclockwise to loosen and remove the bulb.
Place new bulb in the attachment and insert into socket.
Turn the pole clockwise to tighten. Pull the cage away from
bulb.
Construction
The Light Bulb Changer makes it possible to change
those burned out bulbs without climbing up on a
ladder. The construction of this system is simple and
efficient. The arrangement and position of components
makes the system to function. Each and every
component has its own property and responsibility.

Conclusion
 The first conclusion of the present invention is to provide a light
bulb changer and apparatus that immediately change the light bulb.

 The second conclusion of the present invention is to provide a light

bulb changer and apparatus that eliminates having to physically
contact the light bulb being changed and replaced.

 The third conclusion of this invention is to provide a light bulb

changer and apparatus that eliminates risk and save the time.
