TYPE OF WORK

The story Cupid and Psyche can be considered as a Myth, Fairy Tale, and
Allegory. Cupid and Psyche is considered a myth since the story is talking
about the Greek gods and goddesses. It can also be considered a fairy
tale because of how the story began and end. The line “Once upon a
time” tells that the story was originally from a long time ago when the
world was still in magic. While they ended the story happily, which the
fairy tale is known for, having its every ending unusually happy. As for
allegory, the story can be interpreted to reveal its hidden meaning.
Psyche herself and her name represents the human soul, while her
husband, Cupid, represents love and desire. With them together, they
represent eternal love and happiness, and that can only be achieved by
struggling and facing hardships.
THEME
• Love / Romance
- The theme of the story focuses on the power of love and revolves
around the saying "Love Conquers All". The problem of the story is
mainly caused by Venus's jealousy and Psyche not being able to get
married, in which both leads to Cupid marrying Psyche, however,
Psyche betrays Cupid, and in order to be able to be with Cupid
again, Psyche does a series of impossible tasks given to her by
Venus. Psyche, then proves that with the power of love, one can
overcome anything, and Cupid, proves that as long as there is love,
one is able to conquer the past. Story is mainly focused on the
power of love and revolves around the saying “Love Conquers All”.
This can be seen in the story when Psyche does Venus’s task for
her in order to show her love for Cupid.
