Seminar On: Humanoid Robots

The document summarizes a seminar presentation on humanoid robots. It discusses what humanoid robots are, provides a brief history including the first humanoid robot from 1927, compares models from Honda, and explains why humanoids are being developed. It then describes the composition of humanoids, simulation tools used, types of humanoids including ASIMO and AIBO, and presents Sophia as an example. The advantages of humanoids are mobility, learning ability, flexibility, and safety, while the disadvantages are high costs and reduced jobs. The conclusion is that humanoids can take over dull, dirty and dangerous tasks as workers.

 Humanoid refers to any being whose body
structure resembles that of a human: head,
legs, arms, hands.

 But it is also a robot made to resemble a

human both in appearance and behavior.

 Recent enchancement in robotics –

humanoid robots
 A reprogrammable,multifunctional
manipulator designed to move material
parts , tools or specialized device throgh
various programmed motion for the
performance of a variety of tasks.

 An intelligent robot is a mechanical

creature which can function autonomously.
Herbert Televox, was the first ever humanoid
robot. Built by Ron Wensley in 1927

the robot could lift the receiver to accept a

telephone call and control simple processes by
operating switches according to the signals it
received
The P series is a chronological progression of prototype humanoid
robots as developed by Honda
 Can work in human enviornment
 Environment and tools are adapted for
us
 Easier for interaction
 Eases the work of humans
 MAIN COMPONENETS:
Actuators - Motion motors
Sensors - measure sum attribute(sensing)
- Proprioceptive
- Exteroceptive
 OTHERS :
Manipulators
Power source
 3D CAD model of the humnoid robot
created using solid works 2003
 Robotics software development
environment, robotics lab TM v1.5
 Addition of characteristics (weights)
 Connection of each part
 Surface contact conditioner to walk
 Degree of freedom:
• 6 for each leg
• 4 for each arm
• 1 for each hand
• 2 for waist
• 1 for neck
Total 25 degree of freedom
 ASIMO- advanced setup in innovative
mobility

 AIBO- artificial intelligence robot

 Sophia is a social humanoid
robot . developed by hong kong
based company Hanson
Robotics.

 Sophia was activated on

February 14, 2016, and made its
first public appearance at South
by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in
mid-March 2016 in Austin, Texas,
United States.

 It is able to display more than

50 facial expressions.
 Highly mobile
 Watch and learn
 Highly flexible
 Safety
 Less time consuming
 High accuracy
 High cost
 Require specialized people for
maintenance
 Less jobs
 Robots are taking over tasks which are
deemed dull ,dirty and dangerous.
 Humanoids can be used as workers at
exhaustive task.
 It is not the robots we need to worry
about ,it is the people who program
them.
